Under 18s

Sunday 7th December - clarification

Just to be clear as this is a friendly there will be no training session on Saturday. Just turn up on Sunday at 10.30 at Weybridge Vandalls. Everyone who said that they can play will play.

Dave

Sunday 7th December - arrive 10.30

Hi

We now have the numbers to play the game on Sunday. We are playing at Weybridge Vandalls. Kick off is at 11.30am. They have asked if we could arrive a little after 10 am to ease congestion. So can we go for being changed and ready at 10.30 in the changing room which they will provide for us.

I have never been to their ground but they say that parking is a nightmare and therefore they have asked if we can car share as much as possible and accept that we will need to park away from the ground and walk. Please allow time for this.

The address is:

Brownacres
Off Walton Lane
Walton on Thames
Surrey
KT12 1QP

See their website for more info http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/weybridgevandalsrfc/contact/

I cannot be there on Sunday so best of luck

Dave

Sunday 7th December

Hi

It looks like we will have to cancel the match on Sunday as we do not have enough players. The problem is that 10 boys that regularly turn up have not provided details of their availability/fitness status. If we do not have a team by this time tomorrow we will cancel.

Even if you are not sure whether your boy will be fit for the weekend, it really helps if we can be told when we are likely to know by so that we know that there is a plan in hand.

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 7th December

Hi

I have managed to get a friendly for next weekend away at Weybridge Vandalls. Everyone will play but please let me know your availability now. Currently we are scheduled to arrive at 10 and kick off at 11.

Also a date for your diary. On 21 December we have the youth Christmas lunch. Please let me know if your son can attend. Please also let me know if you are prepared to cook a turkey (which will be paid for by the club).

So three things to repond to:
1. Availability for 7.12.14
2. Availability for lunch on 21.12.14
3. Willingness to cook a turkey.

Please remember all three

Many thanks

Dave

IGNORE LAST EMAIL READ THIS re next weekend

Hi

Next weekend we have our first league game of the season against Richmond at home. Please remember we are only allowed a squad for league games of 22 players. Team selection will be made on Thursday evening so please let me have your son's availability. No response will be taken to mean that your son is not available. Reminders will not be sent.

As with previous years, when we play league games, we play to win. This can therefore mean that not everyone gets to play, even if they are in the match day squad. This is therefore very different to friendlies where the aim is to ensure that everyone gets a reasonable amount of play.

As it is a league game, we will also have a training session at 5pm on Satursday 15th at the clubhouse for one hour.

So please let me have availability now for both the training on the Saturday and also the match on the Sunday.

I look forward to hearing from you

Regards

Dave

Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November - AVAILABILITY REQUEST

Next weekend we have our first league game of the season against Richmond at home. Please remember we are only allowed a squad for league games of 22 players. Team selection will be made on Thursday evening so please let me have your son's availability. No response will be taken to mean that your son is not available. Reminders will not be sent.

Friday night is the Adults Quiz night - 7th Nov @ 8pm at the Clubhouse

We've got together some of the finest mother and coach brains but we could do with some further support for the U15s team. Even if you can only make it for an hour that would be great. Just let me know if you can.
Many thanks. SUS. Geoff

Sunday 9 November

All

We are at home this Sunday. The match against Cranleigh has been postponed until (hopefully) later in the season, as we have a league game against them on 30 Nov in any event. It will therefore be training at home this Sunday

We do need this training session after such a run of matches so please make every effort to attend.

See you all on Sunday

Dave

Match 19th Oct

Hi

This weekend we have a friendly against Reeds. Please arrive in polo shirts and then change in the changing room ready to start warm up at 10am. Everyone will play.

So far I have had twenty confirmed available and 4 unavailable. 5 boys who regularly attend have not replied. Please be aware that when we get to league games, if you do not reply you will not be selected. So it is worth getting into the habit of letting me know availability now.

See you on Sunday

Dave

Match 19th Oct

All

A great start to the season this weekend. While there are clearly areas to work on, the boys clearly played well and the tackling has come on hugely since last season.

Fixtures have moved around a little since I wrote my start of season letter and I have managed to get some new games to make up for the cancelled fixtures. Next week we have a match against Reeds at home. The week after we play Guildford Stags (the merged Guildford and Guildfordians side) before then going on tour.

Please can I have availability NOW for:

19th October (Reeds)

26th October (Guildford Stags)

It is important that you reply. This week there were three boys who turned up but had not told us that they would. Without a reply we cannot plan ahead to do the best for your boys.

Thanks

November Social Events - Fri 7th and Fri 28th at the Rugby Club

Well I'm sure the excitement is "rising" as tonight sees the final of Bake-Off!

If your November is looking quiet then "spice" it up as the Club has "cooked-up" two social events!

Fri 7th sees a Quiz night (we hope to enter a U15s team) and

Fri 28th another very amusing Comedy Night!

So get these dates baked, sorry booked into your diaries and let me know if you can come along!

SUS. Geoff

Sunday 12th October

Unfortunately Battersea cannot raise a team for this weekend. Fortunately Old Alleynians have stepped in to fill the gap. We will be playing away at their ground. Everyone will play and we should all be there ready for a warm up at 10am.

The ground is at
Old Alleynian Rugby/Cricket Clubhouse and Grounds
Dulwich Common,
London, SE21 7HA

So that we can plan the team, please let me know availability for this Sunday now. If you do not reply then don't be surprised if your son does not get so much play.

I will email later in the week about whether boys should turn up in kit or in club polo shirts

Thanks

Dave

REAL MEN DON'T ..........Watch Bake Off?? Weds evening

Our night out (Weds 1st OCT) clashes with the penultimate Bake Off BBC1 8pm, so I can only put it down to baking (?) that is stopping you from coming out (!) on Weds evening for the Italian. FYI Kate has been voted off!

Or ..........is that that you are real die-hard rugby fans and want beer and a curry rather than this ponsy European stuff!

Let me know either way, please.

I've had responses from 4 so far (ardent baking fans) who will be armed with their baking stuff (pinnies, rolling pins, baking tins etc) on Sunday at rugby.

Well the oven's beeping so must dash!

DIARY DATE - Weds 1st OCT - 8pm Al Forno Wimbledon

New season new venue for an evening out together! Yes next week.

Let me know if you're available. Meet from 8pm for ordering by 8.45pm.

Southend - May bank holiday next year

Hi

You may remember that I emailed you last week re a possible trip to Southend. Only 8 people have replied. Please can you reply to the below question now. It takes a lot of time doing the admin so if we can reduce the amount of time I spend chasing up, it would be much appreciated.

We have also been invited to participate in a 10s tournament in Southend on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May. The idea would be to camp there and parents are definitely welcome. Everyone will need their own camping stuff although I am sure we can work out some sharing for those who do not have a tent/cooker etc. While we could camp on both the Friday and Saturday nights, I suspect that we are close enough to camp just on the Saturday 3rd. However, before I pay the organisers the entrance fee, please let me know whether you are interested. There would be a charge of £5 per boy for the entrance fee and everyone will need to pay for their own food etc over the weekend.

Please reply now with a yes or no. If you are interested but cannot commit now you can just say possible.

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 21 September 2014

Hi

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Please can you make sure that boys are on time and ready to go at 10am. A touch match to warm the boys up will start at 9.50.

For those who did the sponsored run, Sunday is the day to bring your sponsorship money. Please don't forget.

On Sunday we are on pitch 2 (which is the pitch down the bottom of the hill to the right of the tennis courts as you look out from the club house).

See you tomorrow

Thanks

Dave

Info please

Hi

Well done to the runners today and for James Verga completing an incredible 19 laps. Please can those who have gathered sponsorships remember to bring their money next weekend.

Although we are going away in October, we have also been invited to participate in a 10s tournament in Southend on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May. Sunday 14th September

Hi

Just a reminder that for those boys going on tour it is the sponsored run this weekend. For those not going training starts at 10.30. A few things for the tourers to note:

1. They need to arrive at the pitch side by 9.45. If they do the run without a warm up there is a much higher risk of injury. Let's not chance it.

2. Boys doing the run should wear trainers/running shoes. Again it will help reduce injuries from the run as simply running in boots is not a good idea.

3. Of course boys also need to collect some sponsorships. Please remind them. The costs of the tour are all finely balanced as there is no profit element built in.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday

Welcome Back

Hi

Welcome back everyone. It was good to see so many boys today and also 4 new faces. Welcome to them. There is training for the next two weeks and then we move on to matches. So please ensure that your boys attend the next two sessions.

Next weekend we have the sponsored run for the tour. It will start at 10am and take about half an our. It is obviously compulsory for those going on tour. For those not going, they are of course welcome to support and join in the run.

See you next week.

Help on Sunday Please

Hi

Training starts at 9.45 this Sunday. As mentioned previously please be ready to pay your subs.

I have just been told that our age group has been asked to provide volunteers to help with the subs desks on Sunday. Can I please have some volunteers and I will the try and work out a schedule for you. thanks

Dave

Season starts 9.45 on 7th September

Hi

The start of the season is almost upon us. Please log on to the website and print out the attached start of season letter. It has lots of information and also the fixture list.

It is important for all players to attend as much of the training over the next few weeks as possible as we will be looking at patterns of play, moves etc which will have a bearing on the rest of the season. If they miss a training session they will miss this and it will take away from other sessions trying to bring those players up to speed.

See you on Sunday

Dave

THURSDAY 21st AUGUST TRAINING

Hi

Well done to those who made it yesterday, it was a good start.

The next session will be on Thursday 21st August at the club from 6.00pm - 7.30pm.

Hope you are all having a good summer, let me know if those who don't have it need a fitness sheet so you can make a start before the next session.

All the best

Adam

THURSDAY 7th AUGUST 6.00pm - 7.30pm

Hi

Just a reminder first session of pre-season training this Thursday at 6.00pm.

Try and come along unless you are sunning yourself in foreign climes in which case I can send you by email our pre-season circuit training sheet and you can get started yourself!! Just send a request.

See you Thursday

Adam

2014/2015 Season

Hi, I hope everyone is having a great Summer and a good rest from rugby.

Heading into August our minds turn to next season. We had, I thought an outstanding playing season in U14 Rugby, with the squad getting stronger and stronger as the season went on. As a result and as we head into U15 Rugby I am delighted to say that we have played our way up into Division 2 of the league. This is an excellent achievement by everyone who has made a contribution to the season, so congratulations to you all.

Beers - This coming Tues 8th Jul - 8pm - Rose and Crown - Wimbledon Village

Chaps - short notice I'm sorry but if you can make a beer at the Rose and Crown Wimbledon Village from 8pm you'll find a few to meet up with!
Cheers Geoff (Conall's dad)

Four things - please read

Hi

Four things today

First thank you to those who have made or offerred donations of time, money or cakes (for the cake stall) to help Jack Fishwick. As mentioned last week Jack is a player with our first XV and has sadly suffered an horrendous neck injury in a match this season, leaving him paralysed. We are trying to raise money for him either via donations and via the inaugural Fishwick 7's festival on 26 July. It is not too late to help. Donations to me (payable to WMRFC and sent to 12 The Moat, New Malden, Surrey KT3 4SB) and offers of help to me by email.

Secondly, if your boy needs to burn off energy during the long summer break, then sign him up to the Harlequins rugby camp at Wimbledon RFC, Barham Road, SW20 from Monday 28 July to Wednesday 30 July 2014. You can find more info or book at: www.quins.co.uk/community

Thirdly, if you boy needs to burn of energy during the long summer break, why not try the Park Run on a Saturday morning. It is free and involves a 5km run starting at 9am every Saturday. Edward and I do the Richmond park run starting at Richmond gate and I believe Benjie and sometimes others do the Wimbledon Common park run starting at the Wimbledon Windmill. Parents are welcome to join in. It was good to see Lennie and Luca doing it last weekend. Register at parkrun.org.uk

Fourthly, For many years Martin Rogers (outgoing U18 mgr) has been captain in charge of our website. He has been fantastic in keeping it going, but needs to give up the role. We need someone new. In the initial instance we need someone who knows and works with Drupal, a web design language. Our website is written in an old version of Drupal, but needs to be rolled over to the newest version. It's not an onerous task I believe, but we still need someone to do it. Moving forward, we need someone to do intermittent maintenance. Richard Castle our captain of communications deals with content. If you can help please email me

Thanks

Dave

"

Last email of the day - have you any old WMRFC rugby tops

Hi

We are in desperate need of old wimbledon shirts to make into bunting for our 2015 celebrations. If you have an old style rugby top please donate it and don't throw it away. Please email Meg Gardiner on mg407@cantab.net and she will sort out the arrangements.

Many thanks

Dave

Please support Jack Fishwick (our first team player who was seriously injured)

Hi

I would like to draw your attention to the Jack Fishwick 7's on the 26th July and a call for help.

Some of you may know that Jack is a player with our first XV. He sadly suffered an horrendous neck injury in a match this season, leaving him paralysed. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

The club are hosting the inaugural Fishwick 7's festival on his behalf. The organisers are asking if the minis and youth would do a cake sale at the event and also offer some volunteers. Is anyone up for it?

Even if you cannot help please consider either making a donation to the stall or just a donation in cash. It really is a sad case and one in which the club needs to pull together to support one of our own. Aside from being a player Jack was one of the physios who looked after our boys when they were injured.

Please make cheques payable to WMRFC. You can post them to me at 12 The Moat, New Malden, Surrey KT3 4SB and I will pass them on.

Alternatively please turn up on the day and support either with help or paying a spectator entrance fee. Anything you can do will be much appreciated - just let me know so I can pass your offer on.

Thanks

Dave

Do you think it is a good idea for the club to introduce inclusive rugby for those with special needs?

Wimbledon Rugby Football Club are going to be introducing an Inclusive Rugby section at Tag level within our club working with Inclusive Rugby. We hope to get this up and running this season (2013/14).

Inclusive Rugby are an organisation who are working with the RFU growth department and are rolling out programmes across grassroots clubs providing coaching to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disabilities.

Tuesday 13th May U14 7's Training

Hi

Tomorrow will be the last Tuesday training with Tom and UR7's before meeting at The Stoop on the 28th May, so come along if you can 5.00pm - 6.30pm.

update

Hi
Just in case you are not sure, Sunday training is now finished until September. There is still 7s training on a Tuesday and if you have not let me know your son's availability for 7s on 25th or 28th May, please do so now.
Dave

25th and 28th May - Availability please

Dear All

We have two further 7's tournaments taking place later this month before we finally close down for the season. Both should prove to be fantastic for the boys.

So could you let me know your sons availability for Sunday 25th May & Wednesday 28th May.

Information as I have it at present on the tournaments is as follows:

Sunday 25th May - This is a national 7's tournament with teams coming from all over the country.

The squad size is 12 players

The venue is Newbury RFC and you would need to arrive by 10.00am. Anyone who might have difficulty with transport to and from the tournament both Adam & Geoff have seats available in their cars and are quite happy to transport anyone. Just indicate when replying whether a lift is needed, one way or both ways.

There will be up to 5 games.

Due to the fact that the main rugby season has finished at the club we will be looking at players selected to contribute to the entrance fee for the tournament, which will be £7.50 per player. You can make payment on the day to Adam.

There will be food and drink available all day.

They are looking to play the finals between 4.00-5.00pm

It is worth noting that this is a senior tournament as well so there will be plenty to see and watch.

Wednesday 28th May - This is the finale of the Ultimate Rugby 7's coaching we have been taking part in at the club.

Anyone who has taken part in the Tuesday coaching sessions over the six weeks is eligible for selection. Could those who have had mates along pass this info onto them and let us know if they will be coming as well.

The tournament is taking place at The Stoop, Twickenham (Harlequins RFC)

I have less information on this but it is likely that the boys will get the opportunity to go around the Twickenham Rugby Museum in the morning followed by a tournament against other sides that have been taking part in the coaching initiative from all around London.

It is likely that the tournament itself will begin between 12.00-1.00pm and will finish between 4.00-5.00pm

There will be 4 games ( to be confirmed)

Each set of players will be coached for the day by an England 7's player.

There is no cost.

That's it for now, so if you could let me have availability ASAP that would be great!

Thanks
Dave
