Easter Holidays - urgent reply needed

Hi

As some of you know we have been having real problems rearranging the Vandals league fixture. What I need to know now (and I mean by an immediate reply as I do not have time to chase) is whether you will be away over the Easter holidays on 2 or 9 April. If not too many are away, we may be able to play the league game on one of those weekends.

Please reply now

Dave

Sunday 19 Feb + comedy night

Hi

Just a reminder that it is training this Sunday. It is really important that everyone makes it down as we then have 5 matches on consecutive weekends starting with a friendly game against Chipstead at home on 26 Feb.

On the social side of things:

WRFC COMEDY NIGHT!!!

On Friday 24th March the club is hosting a comedy night. These are always great fun and it would be good if we can get a good turnout from the age group.

Tickets are £20 each and available online here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BMVXoZToQ1bDxvesdmOVf1qSYhlgbYen2oH2eyL...

Please speak to Geoff if you are interested.

Doors open at 7:30pm, there will be free bar snacks for early arrivals! Showtime is 8:30pm.

See you on Sunday

Dave

Sunday 12 Feb

All

As it is half term this weekend there is no training this Sunday. There will however be training on 19 February. The following Sunday (26 Feb) we are then due to have a friendly game against Chipstead at home

sunday 29 January - Old Cats

Hi
Both we and Old Cats struggled with numbers for this weekend. Hence the match has been postponed. There will be training as normal on Sunday but not on Saturday.
Dave

Sunday 29 January - Old Cats AWAY

Hi.

A real lack of response this week on availability.

I still need to hear from:

Sean Davies
Louis Flemming
Jonathan Harland
Will Martin
Chino Onwuachu
Sam Penny
Max Quenby
Freddie Russell
Adam Scully

It is not difficult to reply. Just click reply. Please do so now and let me know whether you/your son can make both training at 4pm on Saturday and/or the match on Sunday

Dave

Sunday 22 January - Old Cats AWAY

I should have also said that there will be no training either as our grounds will be frozen too. Dave

Sunday 22 January - Old Cats AWAY

Hi bad news

I have just heard that the match will need to be postponed. The pitches will be unplayable due to the hard frost. Instead the match will be played next weekend (29 January). I believe that the KO time will remain the same but await confirmation of that.

Before you discard this email please confirm

1. availability for 29 Jan
2. whether your son can make an hours training at 4pm on Saturday.

Normally I do not ask for availability for training but with more and more boys getting Saturday jobs we need to be sure that it is worth running the sessions.

Thanks ....... remember reply to the two points above now.

Dave

Sunday 22 January - Old Cats AWAY

Hi

The latest news is that KO will be at 11.30 on Sunday so boys should be ready to warm up at 10.20. I am waiting to hear if there will be a changing room for us to change in. The location is:

Old Caterhamians RFC
Park Avenue
Caterham
Surrey
CR3 6AH

In terms of availability, ignoring those who I believe are injured, I seem to be missing replies from Sean Davies, Daniel Downs, Jonathan Harland, Adam Scully and Conal Wilson. Please reply by tomorrow evening or you will be assumed to be unavailable.

Sunday 22 January - Old Cats AWAY

Well done today. A hard fought win (13 - 12) in awful conditions.

Next weekend we have Old Cats away. I do not know the kick off time yet, as I will not hear that until later this week. Remember, as it is a league game, we can only take 22 players and playing time is not guaranteed.

We will be running a training session at the club on Saturday at 4pm to get ready for the match the next day.

By way of update, after Old Cats, we have Chobham on 5 March and Ironsides on 26 March. I am still trying to get the Vandals match rearranged and can then look to friendlies.

Please let me know availability now - don't wait to be chased. Thanks

Dave

Sutton & Epsom - Sunday 15 January

Hi

At last our first league game. It is away at Sutton & Epsom but I am awaiting details of the start time. In any event we will have a bit of pre match training at 4pm on Saturday.

Can you please let me know now whether your son is available. Please remember it is a league game so we can only take 22 boys and there is no guarantee reserves will get on, as we play to win.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dave

Training - Sunday 8th January 2017

Happy New Year to you all!

This Sunday we have training/preparation for our first League game on the 15th January. Bryan Croke will be down to help us in this so a good turnout is expected.
There will be an additional training session on Saturday 14th January at 4.00pm for an hour.
10.00am start on Sunday, don't be late!

Adam

Sunday 11 Dec

Hi

The arrangements tomorrow are:
1. arrive for the match (if your son is playing) for 9.40 (as it is a 10.30 KO) - We may need a bit of help setting up for the lunch so can a few parents give me a hand with that so that it is done before the game
2. Xmas lunch will start between 12.30 and 1pm
3. Turkey cooks - please bring the warn turkey (carved if possible) to the kitchen at about 12.30

Thanks and see you tomorrow

Dave

Weybridge Vandals

You may remember that I have been trying to rearrange the Vandals game to after Christmas. They have finally suggested that we play in the evening on Friday 27th January. I do not know yet whether this will happen, but, so that I know whether it is even possible, please can you let me know if your son would be available to play on that day.

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 11 December

Next week we are due to be at home to Esher. Arrive at 10 for a 10.30 Ko

We then have our Christmas lunch later. While people have said whether they can make the lunch can you now let me know if your son will be playing in the match.

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 4th Dec Training

Hi
There is training this coming Sunday with Bryan Croke coming along to do the session. For those who trained with him last time he took a session you know how good he was, so everyone try and come along even if it is just to watch.
We have a friendly at Home against Esher the following week (11th Dec) before the Christmas Lunch, so those wishing to play need to be there this week.

All the best

Adam

Concussion

As you probably know we have had a number of boys suffering from concussion this season. As a club we take this very seriously and operate the RFU return to play protocols. As an extra step we are now also seeking to ensure that players all understand why we are so concerned about the concussion risks and are also able to identify the symptoms in each other so that we can take appropriate action.

With this in mind all players need to undertake the online course at the attached link http://www.englandrugby.com/medical/concussion-awareness/players/

I know that this takes up some precious playstation/xbox time, but it is important and can help prevent serious injury or death. Please can all players therefore undertake the course and let me know when they have done so.

Thanks

Dave

This Sunday and Christmas lunch

Hi

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my last email.

We currently have 21 boys signed up for Christmas lunch. However, at present we are in a position where we will have to withdraw the U17s from the lunch as I only have one volunteer to cook a turkey and we need two. Clearly if we cannot feed the boys we will have to pull out. That would be a shame, so can I please ask once again for volunteers to cook the turkey. The drill is you buy it, we pay for it and you then cook it and then bring it to the club on the day. Anyone able to help out? If we do not have two cooks by Sunday we will withdraw from the event.

For this weekend we currently have 22 boys available which is great. I believe I have not heard regarding the availability of Jonny Davies, Daniel Downs and Hamish Lawless. Please let me know if they are available

On Sunday please turn up for 11.30 (KO at 12.30) at

Sutton & Epsom RFC
Cuddington Court
Rugby Lane
Cheam
Surrey SM2 7NF
Tel: 020 8642 0280

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 20th November - away to Sutton & Epsom

All

I put out an update on facebook on Sunday but forgot to put it out an email also - sorry.

This Sunday we are away for a friendly at Sutton & Epsom. We are playing at their clubhouse rather than in the normal field in the middle of nowhere. The address is:

Sutton & Epsom RFC
Cuddington Court
Rugby Lane
Cheam
Surrey SM2 7NF

Kick off is at 12.30. So everyone should arrive for 11.30 so that we can warm up before hand.

Please let me know if your son can play. Those who have already responded to the facebook post obviously do not need to respond again.

Secondly can you also let me know if your son will attend the Christmas lunch on Sunday 11 December after the Esher game in the morning?

Finally, I am a bit lacking in volunteers to cook a turkey for the Christmas lunch. We will fund the cost but the cooks will need to buy the turkey, cook it and then deliver it to the club house on the day please. Please help us out.

Thanks

David

Sunday 20th November

IMPORTANT squad training this week. We have a busy next few weeks coming up with a friendly against Sutton & Epsom on Sunday 27th Nov. All those intending to play need to be at training on Sunday. Those unable to train or are recovering from a game the previous day I would urge to come along even if it is only to watch, so you can see what's going on.

Start at 10.00am please!

Adam

Christmas Lunch

Hi

I know it is a while away but Christmas lunch at the club will be on 11 December which is the same day as we play Esher at home. Can you let me know if your son will be staying for Christmas lunch after the game.

Can I also ask for two volunteers to cook turkeys for the lunch. The club does the veg etc but does not have enough ovens for the turkeys. The idea would be that the cooks purchase the turkeys, I refund the purchase price and they then cook them and deliver them to the clubhouse at lunchtime on the day. Please don't be shy in coming forward.

Thanks

Dave

Buying Kit through Akuma

Hi

As you know we changed kit supplier this year. The kit is good quality but the process of getting the kit to those who have ordered it is a bit of a struggle. Please bear with the club while we get a proper system in place. In the meantime I wanted to share an email from the club chairman who has been trying to get things to work. It is below. He puts an incredible amount of time into the club so if you are waiting for kit please bear this in mind:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

All

I am trying to improve the process around ordering, buying and delivering Kit from Akuma.

I am meeting with them next week.

With one parental interaction I have just had it has become clear to me that parents do not understand anything about this process.

To start within they don't seem to understand that they are dealing with a club volunteer and not Akuma. They do not understand the amount of time and effort of time that has gone into this. I am not asking for a thank just an understanding...

This person complained how when they collected their kit it was mayhem as people helped themselves!! I have spoken about this before. I am still abhorred at that behaviour. Even since then I have walked away from a box of kit to help someone, turned around and 3 people were delving and helping themselves... they were told in no uncertain terms that that was not acceptable.

Anyway, I would like you all to explain in your parent comms that the club is run by a team of volunteers that give up their time to make this club as successful as it has become.. as the club continues to grow the demands on the few are growing to almost breaking point. They can obviously see the hard work you all put in every Sunday, but they are blind to work in the background that gives you the platform to coach....

To that end when they are asked to help, they just say yes! Whether that is parking duty, cakes sales, social events etc etc... even better maybe just ask how they can help....

Of course this mail has been written about the many, not those among the parents and you who are doing their/your bit to help, and to them/you I say thank you.

Minor rant over...

Regards

Paul Craig

Forthcoming fixtures

Hi

Sorry for not having given advance notice of the fixture list. This has been delayed due to difficulties rearranging league fixtures to after Christmas. I am still having problems moving one of these but hope that will be resolved soon.

The current state of play is:

27 Nov - Sutton & Epsom friendly away
11 Dec - Esher friendly at home followed by Christmas lunch (Can I have volunteers to cook a turkey please)
15 Jan - Sutton & Epsom League away
22 Jan - Old Caterhamians League away
5 March - Chobham League away
26 March - Ironsides League away

I am still trying to move the Weybridge Vandals game. This was originally fixed for Nov 13 but we will not play then due to the pressures of school rugby. When I have a new date for that, I will then also look to get some friendlies in for after Christmas. However, I cannot book those until I know when the Vandals game is.

In case you are wondering what has happened to the Richmond game, they have now withdrawn from the league due to lack of numbers.

Regards

Dave

Training on Sunday

Hi. This Sunday it is training as normal. Please be ready to start at 10am.
Dave

Sunday 16 October

Hi

This Sunday it is training at the usual time. We have arranged with Bryan Croke (1st team fly half) to come down and do a session so please make every effort to be there on time.

I know that we have a number of boys who have had concussion this season. Please remember that I will need an email confirmation that they have been signed off by a medical professional as fit to play before they return to training/matches. We will also want any boy checked by the club physio. He is at the club every Sunday. Of course any boy who is unfit to play but going on the tour will still be more than welcome on the tour.

Regards

Dave

Sunday 9th Oct Training

Sunday 2 October

Hi

This Sunday we play London Welsh away. We will be at Barn Elms details below. KO 11 but arrive for warm up at 10. Please let me know if you/your son will be available to play so that we can plan accordingly. No reply will be assumed to mean non attendance

Although we are playing London Welsh they play at Barnes RFC so head past the London Wetlands right to the end of the road. They are quite a way from the club house so I suggest everyone arrives ready to play at 10am and then goes home from the side of the pitch.

The Address is:

Barn Elms Sports Centre
Queen Elizabeth Walk
Barnes
SW13 0DG

I am told that there is parking but if you do not park properly in the parking bays you will get a fine.

Please note that paying subs is a pre-requisite to playing. If anyone has not registered then I am afraid they cannot play. Details on how to register are on the "How to Join" section of the website

Sunday 25th September

The bad news is Old Alleynians have pulled out of the match this weekend as they play in the Kent league and apparently have a league match this weekend. The good news is that London Welsh (who we have not played before) have stepped in to play us in a friendly the following weekend (2 October). So training as normal this weekend please

Dave

Sunday 18 Sept

Hi

Training as usual this Sunday (10am start). Please make sure that you get down for training as we have a match the following weekend.

Final call for Subs

Just following up on my email from the other night re subs.

If these have not been paid by the end of Sunday the early bird discount ends and prices change as follows:

Single will go from £126 to £140
Family will go from £189 to £210

Please don't say I have not warned you!

Dave

Link for paying subs

The link I just emailed out to pay subs did not work as there was no gap between the word preceding it and the "https". Therefore please try this ( https://goo.gl/forms/chrGcGAJ1HJocrMJ3 ) and if this does not work just go to the website

Don't forget that the early bird discount expires this weekend.

Dave

Sunday 11 September

This weekend we have the sponsored run for those boys going on tour. They should arrive at 9.45. The run starts at 10. Training for everyone is then at 10.20. For those doing the sponsored run please remember to get some sponsorship as we need to raise lots of money if we are to get tour shirts.

This is the last weekend for registering boys at the discounted subs rate. If you have not registered by the end of Sunday the price goes up. We have gone all high tech this year so we have an on line registration form (see linkhttps://goo.gl/forms/chrGcGAJ1HJocrMJ3). Please complete this and then make payment as per the instructions on the form.

We are again looking to sponsor a first team player which means we have to pay their subs. Accordingly please can I ask everyone to add £10 to their subs payment so that we get enough money (or give me the £10 separately). Adam has already lined up one of the first team backs to work with us this year in anticipation of your support.

When you have registered (and paid your subs/£10) please let me know so that I can track where we are with things. An email notification is fine.

Dave

Start of the 2016/17 Season - starts 10am on Sunday 4th September 2016

Hi

I am just trying to get myself up straight and will send out the usual start of season letter. However in the meantime I thought I would give you an opportunity to register and pay your subs in advance so that you benefit from the current discounted registration rate (Subs will go up if you have not registered and paid by 11 September).

We are going all high tech this year so we have an on line registration form (see link https://goo.gl/forms/chrGcGAJ1HJocrMJ3). Please complete this and then make payment as per the instructions on the form.
