Sunday 8 December - Late Start - Arrive in Camberley for 11.30 start

Hi

There is lots to read this week, so please work through it ALL:

NEXT WEEK
We are away at Camberley (boys should turn up in polo shirts). Please let me know availability now (although everyone will play). Giving us availability will, however, allow us to pick balanced teams for each half.

Arrive for an 11.30 start at Camberly at Watchetts Park - see link http://www.camberleyrugbyclub.co.uk/location/ After match meals and showers are available for all players attending.

Car parking is a nightmare. Try parking at the club as your first point of call but be aware they have mini’s playing 9.30- 11.30 and so the car park can be very full if you arrive in the morning, and congestion can be high as they vacate the pitches.

I have attached a car park map (you will need to log in to the WMRFC website to download it). If the club is full, the next best place to park is at Kings School (location number 4 on the map). We will be playing on the club grounds pitch, to get from the school to the club simply walk out of the drive turn right along Watchetts Drive on the opposite side of the road about 100 yards along is an iron railed gate, go through this and you are at the far end of the club's ground and will see the club house across the park.

TRAINING OVER XMAS
We are away next Sunday to Camberley (as per the above). There will be training on Sunday 15 December. The next training session after that will then be on 5 January 2014. As we have a league match on 12 January 2014, we would like to put in an extra training session on 11 January. Please can you let me know NOW whether your son is available for 12 Jan and also for training on 11 Jan.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Youth Christmas party is on 22 December at the Club. Time to be confirmed but will start between 12 and 1pm. There will be no training that day. Please confirm NOW if your son can make it so that we can cater appropriately

Any queries let me know

Dave

Availability and Adults Social

Dear all

A great day today. A really good win over opposition who thrashed us both times that we played them last season. Two things really stood out: the tacking and the support play. The try in the second half, where about 5 of our boys got tackled in quick succession and each time as they hit the ground were able to off load to a supporting team mate, could well end up being the try of the season. It was great to watch

Two things that I want to raise now:

1. Next week: Our first league game is next Sunday. It is against Old Emmanuel. They play just by World of Golf on the A3. So it is nice an near. However it is a late start. Kick off at 12.30. I have yet to get details of when we can turn up to warm up but assume 11.30. You are unlikely to get away much before 2pm. Food will be provided afterwards. PLEASE LET ME HAVE YOUR SON'S AVAILABILITY NOW

2. Adult Social: The club has its annual quiz night this coming Friday. I don't think the u14s will be represented. It is a shame and so the coaches have all think that we should try and make a special effort for the club comedy night on Friday 29 November @ 7pm. Tickets are £15 each and all of the coaches will be there. It would be great if we could get some of the parents attending also, as it is always fun when we socialise together. Please let me know if you can make it. It looks like a great night. Husbands and wives are all welcome.

Sunday 10 November - availability please

Hi

Next week we are down to play Sutton and Epsom at home. Meet at the club for training starting at 10am and kick off between 10.45 and 11.00.

Please let me know your son's availability now.

Also the club's quiz night is coming up on 15 November. Is anyone up for going? Although I cannot make it, it would be good if we could get a U14 table together. Thus if you are interested please let me know and I will then help pull things together.

Regards

Dave

Sunday 29 - away to Cranleigh

All
I am impressed - a near 100% immediate response. That is great. Please keep it up in future weeks as no response will be taken as "unavailable" when making selections.

Just to be clear about this weekend, it is a friendly and every boy will play. Therefore don't worry about waiting for a selection list. I just needed the availability so that Alec and Adam can do some planning before the weekend.

Dave

Some messages from the Club:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

1. Eye wear when playing Rugby-
The RFU’s regulation relating to the wearing of spectacles or sports goggles is set out in Regulation 15.13.3 which states that players of all age grades are permitted to wear spectacles, glasses or specifically designed sports goggles in all forms of non-contact rugby but that players are not permitted to wear spectacles, glasses or specifically designed sports goggles in any form of contact rugby. This means that U9s and above are not permitted to wear any eye wear when playing contact rugby. This is not a change in regulation from last year.

The RFU’s Regulations are dictated by IRB Regulations and for some time now the RFU has been trying to persuade the IRB to permit U12s and below to wear goggles because the RFU recognises that this creates difficulties for children with impaired eyesight who cannot yet wear contact lenses. The IRB’s approach stems from the stipulations relating to player dress/clothing set out in IRB Regulation 12 which says that all clothing/equipment worn by players must fall within the requirements of Regulation 12 and not fall within the description of banned clothing set out in their regulations. This means that goggles could be worn if they comply with Regulation 12 but the problem is that no manufacturer has yet produced goggles that are IRB compliant. The IRB are talking to manufacturers in the hope of producing a compliant set of goggles but this is a work in progress.

The RFU will continue to work with the IRB to reach a solution but in the meantime, should anyone (parent, club etc) wish to voice their concerns directly with the IRB, the IRB can be contacted on: Tel: 00 353 1 240 9200 Fax: 00 353 1 240 9201 Email: irb@irb.com.

2. Fat burning substances:
The message below was sent to all people on the Middlesex Youth Rugby Contacts list by Teddington RFC.

"As you may be aware, one of our former Teddington RFC players, Chris “Splat” Mapletoft died earlier this year; 18 years of age and about to head off to University. Chris played for Hampton School and was a real talent and prestigious tackler. Many of the Teddington lads and former Hampton Boys attended his funeral and took part in the memorial rugby game last Wednesday evening.

Original reports gave the impression that he died of meningitis, which would have been tragic enough. However, the coroner’s report states that the true cause of death was that Chris was taking a drug called DNP as means of losing weight. See http://www.food.gov.uk/news-updates/news/2013/aug/dnp#.UjRblcbkuSp for more information.

The Mapletoft family has been devastated by the loss of Chris, but they want every young person to be warned of the dangers of taking these drugs so that the tragedy they are experiencing is not repeated.

Training Sunday 1 September - Start of Season Letter

All

Please see the linked start of season letter and fixture list. If you cannot get it to work email me and I will email you a further soft copy direct.

Dave

start of the season - 1 September

Hi

See below message from the club - a letter re our age group from me will hopefully follow at the weekend. Also don't forget the Park Run at the Wimbledon Windmill every Saturday at 9am start (arrive 8.45).

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Welcome back! Training starts 10am, prompt as usual, on Sunday 1st September. We look forward to seeing you all again as we start the new season. Lots of news to share including:

The beginning of the season plans
The Wimbledon B Festival (29 September)
The New Rules of Play
RFU Core Values of the Game and discipline
New Social Membership scheme
Important information for managers and coaches

The beginning of the season plans: For the first three weeks of the season it’s all about getting the boys and girls back up to speed as quickly as possible.

KIT: Serious Stuff will be set-up with WRFC gear for the first three weekends to make it as easy as possible to get kitted out. You can buy online here - http://www.serious-stuff.com/c/22/WIMBLEDON-R-F-C- - you’ll need the passcode 1865 to access our club store; or visit in person - http://www.serious-stuff.com/contacts.

SUBS: A crack team of mums and dads will be helping collect subs over the first four weeks in September. It helps the club massively if we get subs in promptly so if you know you’re with us for the season, please sort yours out swiftly!

The New Rules of Play: There are changes to the rules at practically all levels for this season. U6 to U10s see the biggest changes. The aim of the changes is to increase the kids’ enjoyment of the game and the feedback is pretty positive from coaches and players alike (the majority of the country has been playing to these rules already). Any questions, your head coach or Justin Pascoal-Reynolds (director of minis rugby) can help. There’s a link to The New Rules of Play here: http://www.rfu.com/~/media/files/2012/managingrugby/new_rules_of_play/re...

RFU Core Values of the Game and club discipline: This season the coaches will be emphasising the Core Values of the Game to the kids. These are: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. Surrey Rugby and the RFU are seriously focusing on discipline this season and anyone found to be breaking these values will be severely punished. The key part of the Values for parents and coaches is respect of the referee and any parent/coach found to abuse referees and/or match officials will receive a 12 month pitchside ban and sanctions may be imposed on the whole club. In practice this probably means docked points and/or a fine for the Senior First XV that play in London 1 South. Pitchside behaviour at festivals will be strictly monitored. Please help support the club’s aim: zero tolerance of referee abuse.

The club’s discipline policy has been updated and will be available on the website in due course.

New Social Membership scheme: When you sign your kids up for club membership you’ll also get the chance to sign up for adult social membership. There are two key benefits – you can enter the ballot for England rugby tickets and you will be able to hire the clubhouse for free (the hire fee being waived). Details at registration during the first four weeks of September.

Important information for managers and coaches:
DBS CHECK Everyone coaching and managing a Mini’s and Youth team, up to and including U16 will need to go through a DBS (was CRB) enhanced check. This is a mandatory RFU requirement for this season. You will be able to do this during the first three weeks of September. If this applies to you please bring the relevant documents with you (see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/documents-the-applic...) and see either Georgina or Matt at the clubhouse on Sundays to get these processed.

REFEREES We need to have three coaches per age group up-to-speed with refereeing badges too. Please help your head coach/manager achieve this swiftly if you’re nominated to be one. Ken Millett is the club’s new referee co-ordinator.

COACHING Especially for U9 and above, but all coaches are invited, anyone coaching need to be at least “Rugby Ready”. Justin is organising a session at the club on 8 September (tbc) so this is as easy as possible. Please make every effort to attend as this, too, is an RFU requirement. Every age group will also need at least one coach trained to Level 1 by Christmas.

That’s it for now. Your managers will be in regular touch as normal and I’ll be helping all age groups get age-group newsletters up and running through the season.

Best wishes

Communications Officer and U8 dad/coach

Wimbledon Park run this Saturday

After another successful run on Saturday (well done James for doing so well and coming first out of the coaches and boys), I would encourage everyone to do the run regularly. We will be there again this Saturday. Remember the arrangements are: register for free (See http://www.parkrun.org.uk/wimbledon/ ) and then turn up with your barcode (which you will get on registration) before 8.45 for a 9am start on the day (parking can be a challenge).

As a run on a Saturday hardly dents the boys energy levels, we are also going to hold another training session on Sunday at the club starting at 4pm and the finishing between 5.30 and 6pm.

Please let me know if you son is up for either or both of these.

Saturday 20 July - Wimbledon Park Run

Don't forget tomorrow at 9am coaches and boys will do the Park Run at the Wimbeldon Windmill. It is a 5 km run. Everyone is encouraged to attend and join in (Benjie does it most weeks). All you need to do is register (See http://www.parkrun.org.uk/wimbledon/ ) and then turn up with your barcode (which you will get on registration) before 8.45 for a 9am start on the day (parking can be a challenge).  It would be really good for most boys to turn out. There will be loads of people as it is a regular Saturday event which is free to join/participate in.

Rugby gets going again

Wimbledon Tennis is over, the Lions have won and so our thoughts turn to rugby again. Three things for you to think about:

1.On Saturday the Club is hosting the rugby legends event followed by a UB40 gig in the evening. See http://legendsrugby.co.uk/ If you are looking for a great day/night out please go along.

2. Sunday then sees the start of pre season fitness training for the boys. We will meet at the club at 4pm and then do some fitness work and play some touch before finishing at about 6pm. If you can make it please let me know.

3. A date for your diary is then Saturday 20th July at 9am in the morning. Rather rashly the coaches have all agreed to do the Park Run at the Wimbeldon Windmill. It is a 5 km run. Everyone is encouraged to attend and join in (Benjie does it most weeks). All you need to do is register (See http://www.parkrun.org.uk/wimbledon/ ) and then turn up at about 8.45 for a 9am start on the day (parking can be a challenge). Message from Adam Roberts

Dear All

I hope you are all enjoying or are about to start enjoying your Summer and are not missing your rugby mornings too much!

News of my inactivity on Sunday mornings did reach the ears of some colleagues of mine who have persuaded me to take part and run in the London 10K on the 14th July.

Having never done anything like this before and not getting any younger it is proving to be quite a challenge!

The reason for my email to you is to ask for your support in sponsoring me for whatever you can, whether it be a £1.00 or a few quid more. The charity I am running for is for young people and I have added a short blurb at the end of this which gives you a little information about it, as well as the website details if you want learn more.

It is a fantastic charity which I have had the opportunity to see at first hand and it really does make a huge difference to those young people taking part.

It is very easy to donate all you have to do is go to www.justgiving.com/AR1 and give what you can.

Thanks again and see you soon for fitness training!!

Best wishes

Adam

Stagecoach Charitable Trust runs a project called InterAct. This is the 3rd year that a group of runners known as the InterAct Army have run the 10K London run for InterAct. Each year the team grows larger - this year we are hoping to have over 50 runners out on the Streets of London. Our target is to raise £5,000. This is enough to open a new InterAct centre and give disadvantaged children and young people aged 9 to19 a chance to take part in the performing arts and enhance their life skills and chances to succeed at the same time. There are presently 12 centres in Abingdon, Bristol, Colchester, Eastleigh, Guildford, Hampton, Isleworth, Llanelli, Luton, Oxford, Plymouth and Walton-On-Thames.

Harlequins Summer Camp

All

The Harlequins Summer Camp is taking place at Wimbledon RFC on Monday 29th July - Wednesday 31st July 2013.

It is from 10.00am - 3.00pm each day

The cost is £95.00 for the three days

There is a U13/U14 age group and I would highly recommend any of our boys to attend. It was extremely useful for those who attended last year, to the extent that you could see the improvement in their play and technique at the end of the three days. Also the more of the boys who attend from our age group, the more fun it will be!!

You book online at www.quins.co.uk/rugbycamps

Hope you can make it!

Dave

This Friday and Sunday

Friday: Please come along on Friday night and support the club and our fine young Wimbledon U15 players in an inaugural 7s tournament. Bring your partners, your families and your friends and make it a club night to remember. Wimbledon RFC should become the local default club for 7s at both Youth and Adult level and these occasions are how to kick it off!

Sunday: Meeting at the club at 10 am for a warm up. the BBQ will follow after we have managed to lose the opposition. Currently I am still waiting for responses re the BBQ from:

ELLIS Ben
LAWLESS Hamish
ROBERTSHAW Joseph
RUSSELL Frederick
STACE Jack
WALLACE Dalzell

Remember it is £10 per person and once you say you will turn up you are committed to pay whether or not your attend. I need to give final numbers on Thursday so Mick can buy the food.

Sunday 28th April and 5th May + end of season celebration - RESPONSE NEEDED

Dear All

Another good result today (22 - 0). Lots of good team play. We are certainly getting better and better as we near the end of the season.

There is a change of plan for the last two weeks. For reasons I will not bore you with our match against Guildford next week will not now take place. Instead we will have a friendly match at home against Sutton & Epsom who we lost to at the start of the season so we are looking for revenge. On 5th May we will have a further friendly at home to Kingston. This is actually good news as it means that for the last two weeks the whole squad will be together and everyone that is available will get to play both weeks.

After the 5th May we will also have our end of season celebration. The plan is to stay on at the club after the opposition have left and have a celebration BBQ, end of season awards, drinks on the terrace and some fun into the afternoon. As it will be better food than the usual post match lunch, there will be a charge. Parents and siblings are also welcome/encouraged to join in. I am still sorting precise details with Mick but if we work on the basis of £10 per person, can you let me know if your son will join and also if any other members of your family will be there. Geoff will then collect cheques payable to Wimbledon RFC next week.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sunday League Game Vs Reigate Pilgrims and TRAINING ON SATURDAY

Hi

This Sunday we have a league game. With more boys available than normal but the squad size limited to 22, I am sorry but not everyone can be selected. Also please remember that as this is a league game, there is no guarantee that every boy that is selected will get to play.

For those in the squad for this weekend, there is an extra training session at 5pm on Saturday at the club. It will last for approximately 1 hour. If a boy cannot make it please let me know.

On Sunday we are playing at home. Boys should arrive in polo shirts to change before the game and then change back into polo shirts afterwards for food. Boys should be ready to start at 10am. Recent weeks have seen boys turning up increasingly late. Please be on time.

The squad for this week is:

William Barnett
Daniel Elcox
Ben Ellis
Paulo Garibaldi
Sam Park
Beau Roberts
Frederick Russell
Alex Soriano
Tom Webb
Conall Wilson

Boyd Luca
Brown Charlie
Lawless Hamish
Martin William
Peixoto Daniel
Penny Samuel
Penwarden Tomas
Sheppard Thomas
Stace Jack
Sumrie Benjamin
Waters Oliver
Wilkinson Edward

See you Sunday

Rest of the season

Hi

I just wanted to update you on the rest of the season. The next training session is on 7th April. After that we have 4 matches all of the way up to 5th May.

I know that some boys will start to think about cricket in the summer so I wanted to get my reservation for rugby in early. With that in mind, please can you click reply to this email and then mark against each of the Sundays below whether you son is available

14 April
21 April
28 April
5 May

Many thanks and I look forward to seeing you on 5th May

Dave

Sunday 24th - Esher - CANCELLED

It won't come as a surprise but the match is cancelled tomorrow. We cannot train on our pitches either as they are also out of bounds. So enjoy this weekend and Easter weekend off.

I look forward to seeing everyone, with lots of energy, when it is hopefully a bit warmer on 7th April.

Regards

Dave

Tomorrow - 24th March

Hi

Just to let you know that I am waiting for the results of the pitch inspection at Esher. It is a bit touch and go at the moment and I could see that they may defer a decision until the morning. Thus please do not set out without having heard from me first. I will let everyone know as soon as I can and I will definitely email before 9am tomorrow.

Regards

David

24 March - Sunday

All

This week we are away to Esher. See link http://www.esherrugby.com/map.html

We are kicking off earlier this week - 10.30. Thus please arrive in polo shirts, change (we have been allocated changing room No 8) and then be ready to warm up at 9.45. The last few weeks have seen boys turning up later and later. It really does not help us play well, so please be on time.

All boys will play and as we only have 18 available everyone will get a good amount of play. That said bring warm clothes to keep son warm in he spends some time on the touchline.

See you Sunday

Dave

Sunday 24th March

Hi all

A hard fought game today. Unfortunately we cam out on the wrong side with a 26-17 loss. However bearing in mind Dorking have had most of their matches stopped early as they were more than 40 points ahead, the score line does not reflect how well the boys played.

Next week we are currently away to Esher (I just need to confirm details with them). The current availability list is below. A "1" is available, "0" is not available and "???" means I have had not email confirming either way. Please let me know if you have not replied or if you want to change a response.
