Today - Sunday 17th March

At the moment pitches are OK so the match is on. See you at the club shortly.

We will be on a different pitch today. We are on the pitch down the bottom to the left of the tennis court as you look out from the club house.

Sunday 17th March - further info

Sorry I forgot to say, we are playing at home. Meet at the club house in polo shirts and then change and be ready for 10am. We kick off at 11 am. After the match boys should change back into their polo shirts and food will be served. A towel for a shower is recommended.

Sunday 17th March - squad list

Dear all

Sorry for the late notice, it has been one of those weeks.

Once again we have had more boys available than we can take to a league match. The list for this weeks is:

Backs:
Beau Roberts
Billy Dooley
Joseph Gordon
Tom Webb
Conall Wilson
Alex Soriano

BROWN Charlie
LAWLESS Hamish

IMPORTANT: It is going to be cold and wet tomorrow. With the number of boys attending six boys will not be on the pitch at any one time. Therefore make sure that your boy bring lots of clothes to keep warm.

ALSO IMPORTANT: This is a league match and so we play to win. That means that we cannot guarantee that every boy on the list will play.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow

Dave

Reminder: Rose and Crown Social for ALL - Tonight 8pm

Just a reminder that there is a social evening arranged for all, that's parents as well as coaches, to meet at the Rose and Crown, Wimbledon Village tonight from 8pm onwards.

Sunday 3 March - New arrangements

Hi

With only 12 boys so far confirmed as available this weekend and a number of injuries, we have taken the decision to pull out of the league game this weekend. Unfortunately the loss of so many players to school commitments has been too much to take. We will try and rearrange the match but otherwise will have to concede the points.

The good news is that it will allow us a weekend of training for those who are available. Last weekend showed that we really need to focus on certain areas of play, so we are going to put this weekend to good use. If your son is available please make sure that they turn up on time. Also if it is cold get them to wear lots of layers to keep warm.

Regards

Dave

Match today

Hi

A disappointing match today. I think that the cold was just too much for some. Hopefully next week will be better as we have a league game away aganst Guildford.

Can I please ask that people arrive on time. Today everyone was supposed to be ready to play at 10 and at least half the squad was late. It certainly does not help us start with the right frame of mind.

My lost property bag is increasing. Today's addition was a Superdry coat. If it is your son's please let me know. It was left in the changing room so I brought it home with me rather than leaving it where it may never be seen again!

See you next week

Dave

Sunday 24 Feb - Match now at Home

Hi

Good news. I have now arranged for Reeds to visit us this weekend. Please can everyone arrive for 10am and we will then kick off at 11am. As this is a match please can boys arrive in polo shirts and then change back into them afterwards.

I believe that we will probably be on the up and down pitch in front of the club house.

See you Sunday

Dave

Sunday 17 Feb

Hi

See you tomorrow
Dave

Sundays 17 and 24th Feb

Hi

A disappointing game in bad conditions today, coupled with a ref who struggled with the offside line. That said we need to learn to play these games and how to protect the scrum/fly halves to give them time on the ball.

We also need to start with the right mental attitude. Thus for future weeks can everyone please make sure that they pack their bags the night before and turn up on time. Otherwise it does affect not only the individual boys concerned but also the team. It is all about trying to give us the best chance of winning.

Next weekend we have training at home. I know quite a few boys will be away but can everyone else please be ready to start at 10am. We have lots to work on from today.

On 24th Feb we have the opportunity of a friendly game. At the moment I have only 14 confirmed attendees. I am still waiting to hear from:

Billy Dooley
Joseph Gordon
Hamish Lawless
Joe Robertshaw
Freddie Russell
Alex Soriano
Jack Stace

(Max Quenby will you be back from school that day?)

I am keen to keep as many friendlies as possible so please can these boys let me know their availability asap.

Finally we are now missing two league shirts. They are really distinctive as they have Berkeley Homes all over them. If you have one please let me know and then return it next week.

Thanks

Dave

February 10th - Availability please

Hi

Well done today. Although we were clearly much stronger we used the match to try out some people in different positions and it was good to see some good passages of play and some good tries.

Welcome to our new boys, Paulo, Sebastian and Samuel. Paulo and Sebastian put in a good performance today and we look forward to seeing Samuel play.

Next weekend we are at Reeds for a league game. Please can I have availability for next week by return.

Regards

Dave

Sunday 3 Feb - final arrangements

Hi
Tomorrow we have been allocated the cricket pavillion for changing. Please remember that boys need to be changed and ready to go at noon. Food will be served afterwards so boys need to remember their polo shirts (and a towel if they are going to clean up after the match)

For the match we have been allocated the up and down pitch in front of the clubhouse.

See you tomorrow
Dave

Sunday 3 Feb - New time - Meet at Noon at the club

Hi

The weather is causing havoc with the pitches. At the moment there are limited pitches available and priority is being given to league games. That said we are very keen to keep the friendly fixtures so that everyone gets as much play as possible. This has meant that we have had to move the start time for this weekend. Accordingly we will meet this weekend at noon at the club and then kick off our match against Old Ruts at 12.30 with a view to being finished by about 1.30 to 1.45.

Hopefully for those revising for exams/doing homework etc this means they can get it done before they come (which if they are anything like my son will be better as he is more productive in the morning).

As we will only have 30 min before kick off please be on time.

If your son is now unable to play please let me know asap.

Thanks

Dave

Next match and Serious Stuff - at the club on Sunday 3 Feb

Dear all

We are at home on Sunday to Weybridge Vandalls. All boys will play with priority to those who have missed out recently.

Also just so you all know Serious Stuff are planning to come along to the Club House on Sunday to sell kit. They will be there before training starts from about 9.15 a.m. onwards.

If there is anything that is not a standard stock item and you would like to purchase could you let Helen Knight ( helen@evicom.co.uk ) know or contact Serious Stuff direct (http://www.serious-stuff.com/) as soon as possible.

Obviously if things are cancelled due to weather/pitch conditions Serious Stuff will not be coming along.

I will bring the polo shirts that have been bought and which I have been holding onto during the bad weather.

Regards

Dave

Overnight rain has meant that all training and matches at the club are off today. Hopefully we will be back to normal next week when we have a friendly at home.

Dave

Sunday 27 January

Hi

It currently looks as though we will be able to play our match this Sunday. We have been allocated the pitch in the far right corner when looking out from the club house.

Once again we are fortunate that we have more boys available than spaces (we will make up for this in the forthcoming friendlies). The selection for this weekend is:

BARNETT William
BIRD Freddie
BOYD Luca
BROWN Charlie
DAVIES Jonny
DOOLEY Billy
ELCOX Daniel
ELLIS Ben

QUENBY Max
RUSSELL Frederick
SHEPPARD Thomas
SORIANO Salvador (Alex)
SUMRIE Benjamin
VERGA James
WALLACE Dalzell
WATERS Oliver
WEBB Tom
WILKINSON Edward
WILSON Conall

As this is a match weekend please can boys travel to/from the club in their polo shirts and change. We will have a changing room allocated to us and boys should have a towel for a shower afterwards. Food should then be available.

We will aim to start training/warm up at 10am so please arrive a bit before this. Kick off is at 11 am. Every boy should bring warm clothes to wear pitch side when they are not playing.

As with all league games, we play to win so we cannot guarantee everyone will play but we will do our best.

Finally if you are interested in the Sunday lunch on 17 Feb, please don't forget to email Geoff on geoffnwilson@blueyonder.co.uk

See you Sunday

Sunday 20 January

Hi

Due to the bad weather the match this weekend is cancelled. If the snow is good enough, we may go ahead with a snowball fight and a bit of a social for the boys. However, wait for an email to let you know about that.

Finally a date for you diary. On Sunday 17th Feb we are going to do a Sunday lunch at the club. Please let me know if you would like to join in with this. Geoff is just waiting for details of the cost (it was £7.50 last year) and then he will need to collect funds in advance so that we do not find that Mick over caters.

Dave

Sundays 27 January and 3 February

Hi

We have a match this weekend and then for the next two weekends with 27 January being another league game.

We have now discovered that the Prep Schools Nationals Rugby Tournament is on 27 January which means that we are likely to be missing players who will be represtenting their schools on that day.

I therefore need to know as a matter of urgency which boys are available for the 27 Jan and 3 Feb so that we know if we can field a team. Please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks

Dave

lost property

Hi
A good win today. What was really pleasing was that it was a whole team effort with good flowing rugby. I don't think I have watched the boys play a game where the wingers have received so much ball.

My lost property haul is increasing. At the moment I have one sock (from today) and one of the old style rain tops size xsm from a while ago. Please let me know if these are your son's

Training today -Saturday

Hi
Training is on today at the club at 4pm. Remember gum shields. You do not need wimbledon kit if you want to keep that clean for tomorrow.

Tomorrow there is a risk of frost. I will get an update on whether the match is on at about 8.45. I will then send an email out like this. We will all need to leave about then so just check your email before departure or call me 07818 452 216

Extra Session for Saturday afternoon - REPLY NEEDED NOW

Sorry to chase but if your son is in the league squad for this weekend and can make the extra session at the club this Saturday at 4pm please can you let me know. So far I have only had 7 replies out of the 22 selected.

I really want to know if it is worthwhile running the session by Friday evening so that people do not turn up and find it is a waste of time.

If you have not already replied (or are not sure if you have) let me know now please.

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 13 January

Hi

As with other league fixtures we have had more players available then can play. Unfortunately we are limited to 22 players by Surrey RFU rules. The squad for this weekend's league fixture is:

BARNETT William
BROWN Charlie
DAVIES Jonny
DOOLEY Billy
ELCOX Daniel
ELMBERG Freddie
LAWLESS Hamish
MARTIN William
PARK Sam
PEIXOTO Daniel
PENWARDEN Tomas
ROBERTS Beau
RUSSELL Frederick
SHEPPARD Thomas
SORIANO Salvador (Alex)
SUMRIE Benjamin
VERGA James
WALLACE Dalzell
WATERS Oliver
WEBB Tom
WILKINSON Edward
WILSON Conall

All boys should come in normal clothes (wearing their WMRFC polo shirt if they have picked it up). After the match they will be expected to change back into this before food is served, so bring a towel for a shower.

We will meet at Cranleigh's ground at 9.50 so that everyone can change and be ready for the warm up at 10am. The ground is about 15 to 20 min past Guildford - so I am afraid it is an early start. Use this link for directions http://www.cranleighrfc.co.uk/about.php?a=directions Call me if there is a problem (07818 452 216) - I will try and remember my phone this time!

As we have had such a long break we are going to run an extra training session for this squad for 1 hour this Saturday afternoon at the club at 4pm to go over moves etc for the next day. Please can you let me know if your son can make it. We are hoping that as many boys as possible will turn up.

The following week we have a friendly match at home against Weybridge Vandals in which everyone who is available will play.

Good luck to the boys for Sunday.

Regards

David

League Match - Sunday 13th at Cranleigh & extra training Saturday 12th January

Hi

Good to see lots of boys back today. We have our next league match next weekend away against Cranleigh. To allow us to prepare there will be an extra training session for 1 hour on Saturday at 4pm at the club for the league squad.

So far I do not think I have heard from the following boys (sorry if I missed an email):
BOYD Luca
DAVIES Jonny
GORDON Joseph
LAWLESS Hamish
ROBERTSHAW Joseph
SORIANO Salvador (Alex)

Please can their parents let me know if they are available as soon as possible so that Alec/Adam can make the selection.

Now that polo shirts have been handed out could all of those that purchased them ensure that boys turn up for matches in their polo shirts and change into them after the match. If anyone who missed the polo shirt order still wants one please let me know and I will see if serious stuff will maintain the £18 price. I think only 4 boys missed the time cut off but if I order them all together we should be fine

Thanks

Dave

Training tomorrow

Hi

We are on the bottom of the up and down pitch in front of the club house tomorrow.

The new polo shirts have arrived for those that ordered them. For those that still have to pay please bring a cheque payable to me or (preferrably) cash for £18.

Finally Freddie Elmberg has transport difficulties tomorrow. He can get to the club but could not be picked up until 1.30. If anyone is able to take him home (to Putney) or look after him (either at the club or at their home) until his mum picks him up at 1.30 please call his Dad, Mons, on 07850 722 22 73 or email him on maelmberg@aol.com to agree arrangements. Unfortunately I cannot as I need to leave early tomorrow.

See you tomorrow

Hi

I hope you all had a great Christmas. Training starts again at 10am this Sunday (6th Jan). We then have a league game away to Cranleigh on 13th Jan and a friendly home match against Weybridge Vandals on 20th Jan.

Please can I now have availability for:

The club is also holding its annual quiz on 18th Jan. If anyone would like to go on a U13 table please let me know and I will try and organise things. Tickets are £10 each and include food.

I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Sunday 16 December - No Training for Under 13s

Hi

With the weather as it is and with people starting to disappear off on holiday, it has been decided to cancel training for this Sunday. Training will start again on Sunday 6 January. I look forward to seeing everyone then.

If you have a son in another age group I suggest that you check the position with the relevant manager. A number of age groups have cancelled (or are in the process of doing this), although I believe that the Minis have their Christmas party.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Regards

Dave

Sunday December 9th - last chance to order polo shirts

A few things:

1. Emmanuel have pulled out of the match (administrative error on their part). As we have the Xmas lunch around 1-1.30 (thanks to the Penwarden's and Ellis' for cooking a turkey), we will start the training session at 10.30am (with touch for those who are early at 9.20).

2. We will get a better idea of exactly when the boys will sit down for lunch as the morning progresses, and so will train up to about 30 min before we sit down so that boys then have a short period to change etc before lunch. Therefore please bring a change of clothes

3. Polo shirts: After the new year, we are hoping that boys turn up to and leave all matches (both league and friendly) in a club polo shirt. This makes them feel more of a team and helps with team spirit. The polo shirts are available from Serious Stuff (but not via the website) but by putting in a bulk order I will get them at a discounted price of £18 per shirt. Below are details of the orders received so far (let me know if you want me to change the shirt size). If you want me to order a shirt for your son please let me have a cheque (payable to Serious Stuff) or cash tomorrow (with your chosen shirt size). Coaches are also buying them. I will be ordering on Monday morning - thereafter you will need to deal direct with Serious Stuff.

The available sizes are:
MJ - 9-10 years - 30-32 inch chest
LJ - 11-12 years - 32-34 inch chest
XS - 13 years - 34-36 inch chest
Small - 38-40 inch chest
Medium - 40-42
Large - 42-44
X large 44-46

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Sunday 2 December - Reeds Away

Hi

This Sunday we are away to Reeds. We will meet there in the changing room ready for the warm up at 10am. Please do not be late (ie get there at 9.50). The address is Whiteley Village, off Burwood Road, Hersham, Walton-on-Thames KT12 4EJ. See link for a map. http://www.reedsweybridgerfc.co.uk/docs/location.html

Please remember that this is a league match and therefore we play to win. That could mean that not everyone gets to play. We will do our best but the priority must be to secure a win. Please make sure that your son is aware.

It is likely to be very cold. So please make sure that your son brings warm clothes. In case the ground is frozen on Sunday, please remember to check the website before you depart for the match. I will post a notice on the website if the match is cancelled.

I would like to place the order for Wimbledon polo shirts so that boys can wear them to and from matches. If you are interested in buying one at the discounted price of £18, please remember to bring a cheque payable to Serious Stuff with your son's name and shirt size on the back. Once I have placed this order, you will only be able to get the shirts direct from Serious Stuff at the full price.

Once again we have been fortunate that we have more boys available than places as we are limited by Surrey rules to a 22 man squad. The Squad is

BARNETT William
BROWN Charlie
DAVIES Jonny
DOOLEY Billy
DREW Matthew
ELCOX Daniel
ELLIS Ben
LAWLESS Hamish
MARTIN William

Sunday 25 November - Dorking Away - Match is ON

Good news. The match is on.

I am told that the pitch at Dorking is playable. However it will be muddy and heavy and therefore every boys is recommended to bring a change of clothes and a towel for the shower so that they can change before leaving.

We will meet in Changing room No 2 at Dorking at 9.55 before walking out to the pitch at 10am

I will see you in an hour and a half.

Dave

Sunday 25 November - Dorking Away

Hi all

With the rain this evening Dorking has said the pitch tomorrow may be unplayable. They will make a call at the latest by 8.30 am tomorrow. I will email by 8.40 am tomorrow to say whether you should travel. Please keep your eye out for the email or check the website.

On another matter we are keen that after the New Year boys turn up for matches in polo shirts and then change back into them after the match. This helps team spirit and we saw last weekend what team spirit can do.

I have now agreed with Serious Stuff that they will provide polo shirts for the boys at £18 provided that we do a block booking. This is a discount to the normal price. I will collect cheques over the next couple of weeks. If you want to join the order then please let me have a cheque payable to "Serious Stuff" with your son's name on the back and their size.

The sizes are:
MJ - 9-10 years - 30-32 inch chest
LJ - 11-12 years - 32-34 inch chest
XS - 13 years - 34-36 inch chest
Small - 38-40 inch chest

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 25 November - Dorking Away - availability and other matters

Hi all

5 things for you today. Before that though well done to the boys. A great win (24 - 7) over Esher. Lots of really good spirit. It made so much difference that the boys started in the right frame of mind.

Moving onto the messages for you:

1. NEXT WEEK we are at Dorking for a friendly ( http://www.dorkingrfc.com/find_us.php ). We start at 10am but please aim to be there for 9.45.

2. AVAILABILITY: Please let me have availability for both 25 November and 2 December now. Everyone will play next week with priority in terms of game time for those who did not play today or did not get much/any game time

3. LEAGUE SHIRTS: We are fortunate that Berkeley Homes have provided us with league shirts. That does mean though that they have to be washed. I would like to sort out a rota for doing this. Please let me know if you are willing to take a turn.

4. CHRISTMAS DINNER: We are having Christmas dinner for the youth section on 9th December. This is 99% likely to be a sit down roast turkey lunch for the boys. Adults/siblings are welcome to attend, drink etc but there will not be seating for them. The tradition is that a couple of parents cook the turkey's at home (as the club's kitchen is not big enough to cook that many birds) and then bring them down carved at about 1.30. All of the veg etc is done at the club. The club will buy the turkeys but can I please have volunteers to cook a turkey (I am guessing we will need two for the age group - depending on numbers). Please also let me know if your son will be attending.

5. LESSONS FROM TODAY: There are two things I wanted to pick up on. First the pre match preparation is crucial to ensuring the boys start the match well. This means being on time, boots on and gum shield in is important. The second issue is a technical one to do with quick throw ins. If the other side kick the ball from open play into touch we are then allowed to have a quick throw in provided that (a) we use the same ball; and (b) the ball has not been touched by anyone other than a playing player while it is out. In short this means that where the opposition kick the ball out and it looks like a quick throw may be a possibility, please do not touch it. It was not really relevant today but it may be in the future so please take note.

Now that you have got to the end of this long email please reply on (a) availability for the next two weeks, (b) whether you will join the league shirt washing rota; (c) whether you can cook a turkey on 9th December; and (d) whether your son will attend the Christmas lunch on 9th December.

Many thanks

Sunday 18 November - League Game

BEING RE-SENT SO THAT THE WHOLE EMAIL APPEARS AND YOU DO NOT NEED TO LOG ONTO THE WEBSITE TO VIEW IT

All

Sorry for the late notice - this has been a busy week. 4 things for you to know:

1. We have our first league game this week. For league games we are restricted by the rules to a maximum number of 22 boys. Bearing in mind the number of players that we have available, this means we have had to make some difficult decisions (which is very hard bearing in mind the fact that the squad is actually very evenly matched in terms of ability). The selection for this league match is below. Boys on or off this list should not however regard this as fixed for the future - it is not.

If your son cannot now make it please let me know asap as then we have the chance to include those who will understandably be disappointed.

BOYD Luca
BROWN Charlie
DAVIES Jonny
DOOLEY Billy
DREW Matthew
ELLIS Ben
LAWLESS Hamish
MARTIN William
PARK Sam
PEIXOTO Daniel
PENWARDEN Tomas
ROBERTS Beau
ROBERTSHAW Joseph
SORIANO Salvador (Alex)
STACE Jack
SUMRIE Benjamin
VERGA James
WALLACE Dalzell
WATERS Oliver
WEBB Tom
WILKINSON Edward
WILSON Conall

2. As I mentioned in the pre season letter, the league games are matches which we play to win. This means that we will play the team most likely to secure the win and I cannot guarantee that all of those that are subs as the start of the game will play. Clearly where it helps the team substitutions will be made and we hope everyone will get to play. Please ensure that your son is aware of this.

3. Berkeley Homes are sponsors for the club this year and have bought us league shirts with their logo on it. They are sending a photographer along to take some pictures. If anyone has a concern about their boy appearing in photos and these being used for promotional purposes please let me know asap. Photos will still be taken, but we can ensure that the sons of those who object are not included in these.

4. The match is at home. Meet at 10am and kick off at 11am. Food will be provided after the match.

This is a big day for the boys thus all support is welcome and encouraged.

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Regards

Dave

Sunday 11 November - Detailed Arrangements

Tomorrow we are playing Guildford RFC. Everyone will play.

Please note that this is different to Guildfordonians and therefore we are playing at a different ground. Also note that we are not playing at their usual ground as they have a festival going on there.

We are playing at:
Surrey Sports Park
University of Surrey
Richard Meyjes Road
Guildford
Surrey GU2 7AD

SAT NAV users please use GU2 7XX

I attach a document with a map showing directions to the ground (you may need to log on to view this). We do not know which pitch we will be on at this stage. They think it will be a pitch up a hill from the car park near the main building (hopefully it will become apparent when we get there). If you get lost call me on my mobile 07818 452 216.

They have asked that we get there at 9.45, so please be on time.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Dave
