This Sunday we have our final game against Old Reigatians at Chobham RFC (Fowlers Wells, Windsor Road, Chobham GU24 8LD). Our KO time is 13.00. So we need to be there for warming up at noon.

In terms of availability we currently have 8 from the u18s but of those that I would normally expect to hear from I have yet to hear from Charlie Brown, Nick Brown, Fred Harwood, Will Martin and Jack Stace. If you are coming please let me know as I need to sort things out with the U17s also

As it is our last game it would be great to have a full turn out

Dave

The next two weekends

Due to other things going on at the club this weekend, we will train in the mid afternoon starting at 3pm this Sunday.

This is the final training session before what will probably be our last ever game as colts. That will be on 22 April at Chobham. The KO time has yet to be confirmed but will be another afternoon game.

Please let me know if you can make training this weekend and also if you can make the match - so two replies needed.

Thanks

Dave

Easter Monday

The U21s are through to the final of their cup competition and play at 11am at Old Reigatians on Easter Monday at 11am.

There is no training on Sunday (as it is Easter Sunday), does anyone fancy playing for the u21s on the Monday instead. If so please text Jim Green on 07484 251 785. You can also sign up to the Wimbledon u21s facebook group to keep up to date with what is going on so that you can continue playing next year when available.

For the colts we will reconvene on Sunday 8 April.

Tomorrow - 11 March - opportunity for a match

As mentioned in my last post, U17s are away to Effingham and Leatherhead tomorrow in their half of the quins cup draw. U18s are training at home at 10am. However, as the U17s are tight on numbers, if any of the U18s would like a run out with the U17s to provide some additional firepower, please can you get in touch with Frank (the U17s manager) on 07798 863 837 or frankfakhim@gmail.com

Sorry for the late notice but I have been away.

Dave Wilkinson

Sunday 11 March

This weekend has got a little complicated. Where we have ended up is:

1. U17s are going to have a Quins cup game (10 a side) away at Effingham and Leatherhead

2. U18s are not going to play Roslyn Park this weekend. That game will now take place on 25 March

3. U18s will have training at home. It is important that everyone turns up at we need to practice some 10s play as we are likely to have to play reduced side games later in the season

4. If you are desperate for a game, the adults strollers side is looking for players on Saturday for their game away to Reeds/Weybridge 2XV. Luke Good played for them a couple of weekends ago so I you want to know what it is like feel free to message him (lukegood10@icloud.com). If you want to play please then get in contact with Andy Hayley who runs the strollers on andy.j.hayley@gmail.com

Thanks

Can you please let me know availability now

Dave

Sunday 18.2.18

Hi. Tomorrow it is training.

In other, very important matters, very quietly our local residential neighbours are mounting a strong campaign against the club to prevent the building of the proposed All-Weather 4-G Pitch that the RFU is funding.

As part of their campaign they are noting, photographing and videoing ALL "Bad" behaviour - this includes parking, littering, any anti-social behaviour etc. This is across the whole club not just M&Y.

So everyone needs to be more vigilant.

This starts with parking habits - both in terms of controlling the parking but also respect being shown by the club attendees.

So please park responsibly

Thanks

This Saturday and Sunday

Hi.

This Sunday it is training at home. However re Saturday, below I have set out an email I received from Andy Hayley who runs the strollers side for the club. He is looking for players to play on Saturday. If you are interested please contact him on andy.j.hayley@gmail.com.

Thanks

Dave

********************
Dave,

Dick suggested I get in touch with you, as I am keen to reignite the U18s playing Strollers rugby.

As you probably remember from time to time your eldest son played. Post-Christmas, we've tended, over the last 4 seasons, to get a good sprinkling of 18s into the side.

This coming Saturday (17th February) we have a home fixture @2:00pm vs Old Freemans. Could I ask you to enquire if any of your squad would want to make themselves available to play this week?

The side is a good mix of youth and experience and we still have a number of U19s/U21s playing too.

Drop me a line back if you need any other information. Thanks very much for helping out here.

Cheers

andy

A second email - please support the club

As you may know, Wimbledon has been chosen by the RFU to have an Artificial Grass Pitch installed paid for by the RFU and used by us for a minimum of 12 hours per week and the local community outside that. Our application has gone through to planning stages (link to the planning documents is at the bottom of this email) and we are moving towards a delivery date of the beginning of the 2018/2019 season. We are the only club in the area through to this stage and as you can imagine, it's very exciting!

But, in order to move this process forward we need YOUR help please. If you feel that you may want to support this application, we would be grateful if you could write to Merton expressing that. You can do so by emailing planning.representations@merton.gov.uk with the following information.
1. Application reference number - 18/P0183
2. Your name
3. Your address
4. Planning application description - Installation of Artifical Grass on existing rugby pitch at Wimbledon RFC
5. Your comments
The deadline for comments is Wednesday 14th February so please don't delay! We need all the support we can get.

If you have any questions about this or anything else please do not hesitate to contact our Secretary Meg Gariner on mg407@cantab.net

Many thanks,
Dave

So this weekend it will be training as normal

Next weekend - 28.1.18

Well done today - 21-12 to us in awful conditions.

It is possible that we may have a game next weekend as Old Cats are looking to move the game which was scheduled for later in the season. So please let me know if you can play now. I will confirm if the game is on or off as soon as I hear

Dave

Match still on

We are told the match is still on. Bring waterproofs and warm clothes. We have 22 players so there will be time on the touch line where you need to keep warm.

KO: 12:30. Warm up at 11.30

We will not have access to a changing room until noon so it is not much use. Therefore turn up in your kit although you will be able to change after the match.

Availability

Well done today. To get a draw from London Irish is a great result.

We are still trying to work out how we manage things going forward to do this I need to know your availability for both the rearranged Waterfall cup match next weekend and the Quins cup fixtures.

So please let me know which of the following weekends you are available for and then put them in the diary. I will still ask you to confirm availability in the week before the fixture but without some form of commitment for the rest of the season it is difficult to plan.

So I need availability for

1. 21 Jan (ie next weekend) Weybridge Away (waterfall cup)
2. 4 Feb (Waterfall cup semis)
3. 11 Feb (Quins cup round)
4. 11 March (Quins cup round)
5. 22 April (Waterfall cup final/play off day)
6. 29 April (Quins final day)

We have other matches but these are key dates.

Please look at your diaries and let me know. If you are available for all, don't just say "available" say "available all" so I can see that you are responding in respect of all matches and not just the next one. Similarly for "unavailable".

thanks

Dave

Tomorrow 14 Jan

We have managed to get there for this weekend. The match is at home. KO is 11.15 and so warm up is from 10.15. It is a very busy day at the club so parking will be awful. Best to walk or cycle if you can. If you cannot please respect our neighbours as there have been a number of complaints recently.

SORRY READ THIS VERSION:

Hi We need to make a decision this weekend as to whether we withdraw one of our two teams from the Quins cup. At the moment I am thinking we should as we only have 13 people available for this weekend. It is a 10s tournament but we cannot operate with such slim numbers.

Can those who have not replied let me know whether they can play. Those listed below include boys who have been injured or who I had been told would be back after Christmas as school rugby is over. Can they let me know their plans.

Those I would like to hear from are:
Sean Davies
Dan Elcox
Louis Fleming
Hamish Zin-Zan Lawless
Chino Onwuachu
Max Quenby
Alex Soriano

Next Sunday

Well done today. A great win - 30 to 3.

Next week we are at home for training followed by the youth Christmas lunch. Please make every effort to attend as we need the training before the Weybridge game the following weekend.

For those in the U18s this is your last youth Christmas lunch. To mark the occaison it is a tradition for the club to present those who have been with the club for 10 season with a "ten year" club tie. Those who have not been with us for 10 years receive a normal club tie. This means that it would be good if everyone (including those who have not played this half term due to school commitments) can attend and secondly everyone should wear a shirt with a collar (white or blue).

So that we know how many to cater for, please let me know now if you will be attending the lunch.

thanks

This Sunday and Christmas Lunch

Hi

Two things. Still waiting for the replies for this Sunday from
Charlie Brown
Nick Brown
Jonny Davies
Sean Davies
Max Quenby

The second thing is that we have our Christmas lunch on 3 December. Lunch will be served between 12.30 and 1 pm so please let me know if you are available for that.

Finally Christmas lunch will be a bit sparse if we do not have any turkey. Can anyone volunteer their parent (or themselves) to cook the biggest turkey they can get in their oven. They would need to buy it and I would reimburse the cost. I will be away so we definitely need a volunteer please.

When replying with availability please make it clear whether you are talking about this Sunday and/or the Christmas lunch

Thanks

A serious message - please read

As you hopefully know we have launched a fantastic new project Wimbledon In The Community. You should also know that, although we have some generous funders we need to get more funds to keep it running and we have applied to the AVIVA fund to help with that.

We need you to log on and vote and we stand a good chance of getting some funds to help us build a better club and a better community. So far, with only two days to go, we have only just over a 1000 votes as I don't think enough people knew about it. So please get on their website ( https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/ ), register on the site, then type Wimbledon in the search bar and cast your 10 votes for the Wimbledon in the Community project and lets improve the ruby experience for 100s of children.

Sport has always been a great way to connect with people. It has the ability to build the strongest of bonds, whether that is through competition or being part of the crowd.

It is Sunday evening, so you have the time to make a difference today .............. please
