Tuesday 6th May U14 7's Training

Hi
Well done to all the squad yesterday at the Cranleigh 7's. To get to the final on a first outing was really well done and very impressive and bodes well for future events!

Training tomorrow is ON as normal at the club 5.00pm - 6.30pm.

Only two more sessions to go so try and come along and bring a mate if they fancy a run out.

See you then.

Adam

.........................

All,

Those of you at the President’s lunch I hope were pleasantly surprised at Mike Keane’s announcement that we had received grant funding of £100,000 towards the £300,000 cost of building four new RFU compliant en suite changing rooms adjacent to the clubhouse. En suite changing rooms are particularly important for the development of the Club since it allows men’s women’s, boys’, and girls’ sports to be played at the Club at the same time. This will increase the amount of people who can play sports at the Club at any one time (for those who have not been to the Club for a while we have two brand new floodlit netball courts and are looking to develop netball at the Club), from next season onwards therefore benefitting future generations of Wimbledon RFC members. Whichever way you look at it is a great opportunity to make our great Club better.

Since the lunch I have spoken to the RFU who have agreed to expedite our application to the Rugby Football Foundation for an interest free loan of around £70,000 which is good news, but they have advised that we should progress on the basis that RFU grant monies will not be available to support our endeavours, which is bad news.

In addition to this, the club has access to funds and has received pledges equating to around £75,000, bringing the total to £245,000, so £55,000 short, but we are almost 80% of the way to getting new changing rooms built this summer and for many of you this will be the first you’ve heard of it! The problem is that the £100,000 of grants that we have worked so hard to get are subject to achieving the full £300,000 fund raise, or they will expire and fall away, and we will have to go through the process all over again with no certainty of being re-awarded.

We are so close that collectively we should find a way to make this happen, and there are two ways you, our past, present and parents of future players can help: make a donation or if your (or someone you know’s) trade is construction related, provide your services at a big discount or for free, both are equally valuable.

Mentally I have set us the following targets for fundraising and I encourage you all to see whether your circumstances will allow you to participate at some level:

100 donations of £50

50 donations of £100

20 donations of £250

10 donations of £500

10 donations of £1,000

5 larger donations

Of course, if you wish to donate a different amount you are welcome to. You are also welcome to set up a standing order and pay by instalments.

AND REMEMBER THE CLUB IS A REGISTERED COMMUNITY AMATEUR SPORTS CLUB SO ALL DONATIONS BENEFIT FROM GIFT AID, SO IF YOU COMPLETE A GIFT AID DECLARATION THE CLUB GETS 25% ON TOP OF YOUR DONATION AND YOU COULD REDUCE YOUR OWN TAX BILL.

If you are as eager to make this happen as I am and it is within your means to make a donation, please do.

If you are in the construction industry (including structural engineering) and are prepared to provide them to the Club on very favourable terms please get in contact with me

Please can I encourage you to pass this message on to others who you think would be interested.

Yours humbly

Steve Platts

7's Training CANCELLED TODAY

Dear All

Apologies for the late notice but today's 7's training has been cancelled.

There will be no training next week either 22nd April.

We will resume the training on the Tuesday 29th April.

I can confirm the culmination of these sessions will be on the 28th May when the boys will play down at the Harlequins Stoop and each team taking part will be coached by one of the England 7's players, so should be a lot of fun. I will let you have details when I have them.

Have a Happy Easter

2. 20 April - Easter Sunday - No training/match

Everyone is encouraged to come on 13 and 27th April. For the 4th May we are limited in numbers so will need to select a small squad to go. That however will only be done after boys have had the opportunity to try out 7s over the coming weekends.

Just a reminder that we have the third session of 7's training taking place at the club on Tuesday 8th April at 5.00pm - 6.30pm (tomorrow!).

4th May

Hi

I will let you know later this week how we are going to play the rest of the season as the match we originally had lined up for next weekend is cancelled - Reeds could not put out a team.

The only fixture that we now have is the Cranleigh 7s. For this we are only allowed a squad of between 12 and 14. A while ago I asked for availability for the 4th May and am still awaiting replies from 9 of the squad. Please can you let me know now if you have not replied. If you want to reply a second time just in case, please feel free to do so.

Dave

Sunday 6 April - Guildford at home

Hi

We are 14 so far for this Sunday but 7 people have not yet replied. It is really hard for the coaches to work things out if we do not know who is going to turn up. If you have not replied yet please let me know now if your son will be available. As it is a friendly, everyone will play

Dave

Tuesday 1st April U14's 7's Training

Just a reminder to you all that we have the second session of Ultimate 7's Rugby training tomorrow (Tuesday) at the club from 5.00pm - 6.30pm with Tom & Joe.

So for anyone who didn't make it last week and is thinking about it come along. Those who took part last week really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it.

See you tomorrow

Adam

Sunday 6 April - Guildford at home

Hi

Next week we have Guildford at home. Can you please let me have availability now. Everyone will play but by giving me availability, it will allow the coaches to plan before the day.

Many thanks

Dave

Sunday 23 March

Hi

Training at home tomorrow. Please arrive BEFORE 10 am so that we are ready to start at 10.

If you are free today, this Saturday sees 4 games at home!! 1st XV, 2nd XV, Strollers and SGUL ladies. The weather may not be as gorgeous as last week but we will be staying in that summer spirit by running an all day BBQ...
homemade burgers,
minted lamb skewers,
Cajun chicken skewers,
hot dogs etc until 8pm along with the usual snacks and match teas from the kitchen.

This Saturday also sees long time club member Gareth Staney and his wife Amanda saying goodbye to us for a new life in New Zealand. Gareth will play his last game forWRFC at 3pm with the strollers so please come along and cheer him and all the rest of our boys on!

The evening will see the usual club antics with a DJ and party until late to give the Stanneys proper Wimbledon RFC send off.

All welcome for what promises to be a fantastic day and night!

Tomorrow (2nd March) and 9th March (League match against Camberley)
Sat, 01/03/2014 - 18:32 — dlwilkinson
Hi

Tomorrow we are at home to Guildfordians. It is a friendly so everyone will play. Kick off is 11am so boys should arrive for the warm up at 10am. We will be using one of the changing rooms in the pavillion (ie the building over to the left when you look out from the clubhouse). Boys should arrive in polo shirts and change for the game and then back to polo shirts afterwards. We will be playing on the pitch on the far left (when looking out from the clubhouse) so at least the changing room will be close by.

Next week we play Camberley in the league at home. Kick off will be 11am so again it will be a 10am start. Please can you let me know availability now.

Finally Cranleigh are looking to hold a 7s tournament on 4 May. We would like to take a small squad (it would not be as big a squad as for league games). So that we know if this is viable, can you please let me know now whether your son would be available for this.

Please reply now. Remember there are two questions you need to answer!

Thanks

Dave

Sunday 2 March

Sorry I should have guessed that asking for three weeks availability in one email was a bad idea and have a negative effect on the number of people replying.

On 2 March we have Guildfordians at home. If you have not replied to the previous availability request, please let me know now.

Survey and availability

Hi

Three things today:

1. Don't forget that there is no training this Sunday as lots of people are away.

2. We are starting to plan for the forthcoming league and friendly matches. Accordingly please let me have availability for 23 Feb - Training, 2 March - Guildfordians and 9 March - Camberley

3. Please remember to complete the surveys which the club is conducting regarding how rugby is run at mini and youth levels. So far only four people have completed them. Just to remind you below are the links to the surveys (Please email me when you have completed them so that I can check how represented our age group is):

For Kids (under supervision of
parents): https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B3RNH5Z
For Parents : https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FCS3SSC

Thanks

Dave
"

Please read.

As you may know, the RFU and SurreyRFU have some proposed changes to how rugby festivals are run.  They also have plans regarding youth rugby. To that end, the club has been putting together a club level response to the proosals.  However, before we finalise that process, we felt it would be very valuable to have the view(s) of players and player parents.  So, we have put together 2 very short Survey Monkeys.

Please help the club represent all our views and complete the survey and then ask your son to complete the players survey also. Once you have done this please let me know so I can monitor how many replies our age group submits. This is a hugely important issue, and the surveys will take less than one minute.  We will keep the surveys open until the End of Sunday 16th Feb.

Please see links below

For Parents : https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FCS3SSC

Many thanks

Tour and training

A good result today in windy conditions. Well done boys

Next week we have a week off. We are then back training on 23 Feb.

The tour is now definitely on. We have 24 boys travelling. I will be paying deposits tomorrow and cashing cheques this week sometime. More details will follow - we now need to think about fund raising!

Dave

Sunday 9 February + Tour

This week we are at home to Weybridge Vandalls. Currently it is at normal time. So arrive for training/warm up at 10am and kick off at 11am . If pitch availability means things, change I will let you know.

With the number of responses that I have had, I believe the tour will be viable. I have received the deposit from some but not all. If your son does not want to go, that is fine. However, please could you email me to let me know as otherwise I am left with uncertainty as to what to think. For those who are going and have not paid their £50 deposit, it is essential that I get that this weekend as I need to pay the deposits to PGL on Monday.

Thanks

Sunday 2 February + tour

Hi

Next week we are at home to Weybridge Vandalls. Please let me know availability now.

Thanks to those who provided me with cheques/cash for the tour today. I know some people emailed to say that they were up for it but I need the £50 deposit if I am to book a space. Also I will only book when I know that we have enough in total. My provisional booking expires next weekend.

If your son wants to join the tour please let me have your deposit cheque payable to David Wilkinson. It can be posted to me at 12 The Moat, New Malden, Surrey KT3 4SB. If you would rather do an electronic transfer please let me know and I will let you have the account details. Remember to read the tour letter which I emailed out last week for details.

Reigate, October Tour and next weekend

Hi

Three things for you today:

1. A hard fought win today in appalling conditions. Well done boys. Many thanks also to Jo dooley for offering to wash the shirts. It is much appreciated to have some help. Can I please have volunteers for forthcoming weekends. I would like to set up a shirt, bib and water bottle rota if possible.

2. The team spirit of the boys is getting better and better. We would like to build on this with a small tour next year. See attached letter for details. You will need to log on to view it. In summary we are proposing to stay at the PGL in Swindon for two nights at the end of the October half term, do lots of training and team building and play one or two matches against local sides. The all inclusive cost is £155 and the deposit, which is required within the next two weeks (if you are interested), is £50. Please however read the whole letter for details. We need to know if this is viable within 2 weeks as otherwise we will lose our provisional booking.

3. Next week we are away to Esher. Please let me have availability now.

Training 5th January is ON for one hour - start 9.30

Hi

If you have been monitoring the website you will notice that most training tomorrow is cancelled but at the moment there is one pitch which is just about playable. We will therefore train for 1 hour from 9.30 to 10.30 tomorrow (Sunday) morning.

As we only have one hour, it is imperative that everyone is on the side and ready to go at 9.30. That means you should aim to turn up at 9.15 am.

Training 5th January

Hi

Thanks to everyone who turned up for the Christmas dinner and a special thanks to Jo Ellis and Mark Gordon for cooking the turkeys on behalf of the age group (New volunteers next year please as Jo has now done it two years running).

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

A bit of a reminder. It is training at the usual time on Sunday (5th Jan). On the following Saturday (11th Jan) we then have an extra 1 hour training session at 5pm for the squad that will play the next day (12th Jan) in the league match at home against Cranleigh. Please remember that unless we are told that your son is available for a match, they will not be selected (we recognise that not everyone is available on the Saturday).

I suspect that my earlier request for availability has got drowned out by the Christmas rush so, if you have not already replied, please let me know if your son is available for 11th and/or 12th Jan. The match on the 12th is at home so should be the usual start time.

Best wishes for the New Year

Sunday 22 December

Hi

Tomorrow is Christmas dinner day. There is no training. Boys should turn up for around noon as we will aim to sit down to dinner at 12.30. Parents are of course welcome (indeed it would be good to see you all for a Christmas drink before we break).

Dave

15 December 2013 - training

Training as normal tomorrow. Start 9.50 with touch so main start is at 10.

We are on the training pitch tomorrow (ie the one without posts between the first team pitch and the car park

Dave

Christmas Party - help please

We have our christmas party on Sunday 22 December. While Mick in the clubhouse cooks all of the veg, he does not have the oven capacity to cook the turkeys. Can I please have three volunteers to cook a turkey and then bring the cooked turkey along on the day. The deal is that each cook buys a turkey, cooks it, gives me the receipt and then the club will reimburse the cost. Please volunteer to help as without volunteers we cannot run the party.
Thanks
Dave

PS well done to the boys today. While we lost by 6 points it was a great performance with many boys playing out of position. Well done to Benjie for 17 tackles in the match. Much more than twice the next highest tackler.

Camberley - pitch and parking change

We have been moved to pitch No. 2 (pitch plan emailed earlier this week - you need to log on to view it). This means that we are close to the clubhouse and I would suggest that you do not park in the school car park. Post code for the new pitch is GU15 2SR

See you tomorrow

Dave

Availability please - now

I have just added things up and we are only 14 players for this weekend at Camberley and about a third of the normal squad have not replied. If you have not replied please do so now or else we will have to cancel. thanks

Sunday 8 December - Camberley late start and change of pitch

I have just been informed that we will be playing on Camerley's pitch at the Kings International School. As this is a little trek from the club house they recommend that boys arrive changed and go straight to the pitch.

We will gather for an 11.30 start with kick off at 12.30. After the match we will go to the club house for food/showers etc.

The post code for the school is GU15 2PQ.

I attach Camberley's parking details (you will need to log on to the WMRFC site to download this)
