U12 player selected for Harlequins Academy

We may have only just finished Wimbledon and have just started the Ashes series but plans are already being made for next season's Youth Rugby season, and there was good news recently for Wimbledon's Ben Haughton who has been selected for the Harlequins Academy. Ben, who plays at full back for Wimbledon Under 12's, has been with the club for several seasons and caught the eye last year with a number of excellent performances.

Victory for Minis coaches over main club! (cricket)

Wednesday night saw the the Minis "coaches and dads" cricket team extend their unbeaten run with a famous victory over the main club. The opposition opened the batting, and steadily added runs to reach the highly respectable total of 159 in their 20 overs. The coaches 11 got off to a flying start, but were pinned down in the the middle order and needed 8 runs from the last 2 overs. These were provided in spectacular style by Philip 'Asif' Rea, bashing a straight six off the oppositions secret fast bowler. Bragging rights to the Minis until next year!

A perfect day for rugby.A gentle breeze,a sunny day and a firm pitch .At last for almost the first time all season we had just about our ideal back line to take advantage of the conditions. After a couple of starts in friendly games it was excellent to see Frank - a member of our Tiffin contingent -make his first start in a League match -and he was to make a telling contribution.

Come to the Ball.

Another Great Season
A Fun day that was even more fun than usual was held at the club last Sunday and marked the end of the mini's fixtures at least. It's not quite over as we still have a few events and league games to go but it did mark the end of another great season. The event itself proves how many committed volunteers we have, not least to organise the event and staff the stalls etc and our results at the various Surrey festivals and in the leagues have proved once again we are a force to be reckoned with.
The youth teams will celebrate their end of season over the coming weeks. The under 18s have already done so after a pretty successful last season including a famous win against top of the table L Irish. This team, that grew from the ashes of a much weakened UI4 a few years ago, have gone from strength to strength and become proper club members with a positive attitude that should be an inspiration to all. Well done to them and lets hope we see a lot of them still at the club next season.
This year the Men's first team joined in the winning ways and won promotion to London 1 South, after a convincing play off win last Saturday which is really great. join them for their celebration ball on the 15th (see below).
Watch this space for news of the AGM and how you can get involved. Touch rugby for coaches (and some youth groups)continues through the summer and you can find news about coaching courses at the club elsewhere on the site, but for now you can dust off the barbys and enjoy the Sunday lie in.
