Pitch plan and arrangements for Sunday 16th January 2022

A big welcome to Esher Rugby and Old Ruts who are joining our minis for training today.

Please note that we have moved a few age groups around to accommodate our visitors. As the grounds are wet - parents - please don't trample the touchlines into an even bigger mess!

WALKING RUGBY: Starts again on Sunday, 2pm. All over 50s welcome to join this well-supported group.

TREASURER: We are on the lookout for a new treasurer for the Minis & Youth section. Nick Wright will be stepping down from the role at the end of the season (a year after his own son stopped playing). Accountancy training not required, but some numeracy would help. The task takes a couple of hours each month and Nick will provide a fantastic hand over (having absolutely nailed the job over the past few years). Please help if you can - contact chair@wmrfc.co.uk if you can help.

1st XV: The men lost to 2nd placed Hertford 5-13 last Sunday in tough conditions. They are on the road this Saturday at Westcombe Park. Next home game is the week after on 22 January against CS Stags 1863 (2pm), our U13s providing the ball boys. The Women’s game was cancelled last weekend, so their first game in 2022 will be away at Beckenham Ladies on Saturday.

The U12s are on parking duties and U9s are providing the cakes. Please support both.

Happy New Year!

It's great to be back, especially as we are all now back to playing the full rules for our age groups. You can read all of the regulations for the age groups here.

This Sunday, everyone except the U15s (training away at Dorking) are at home, with the U14s (welcome to Rosslyn Park) and U15 girls having joint training sessions at home.

Quiz night on February 25th
Or next quiz will be on Friday, 25 February (7.30pm start). Teams of up to 8 at £17.50 per person, which includes a top notch curry. It'd be great to get one table per age group, or at least combine a few so that the M&Y are well represented. Book your tables with John Woods: johnwoods.wrfc@gmail.com

Wimbledon Colts player debuts for Harlequins U18s

Our Colts (U17 and U18 team) head coach, Justin Pascoal-Reynolds, is proud to share the news that one of his players, Ethan Knight, was called up to the Harlequins U18s team just before Christmas. The match against London Irish, played at Cobham RFC, was a tight affair with Quins edging the scoreline to win 21-17. Many congrats Ethan, from all of us at Wimbledon RFC.

Pitch plan for Sunday 19th December 2021

Sadly we have decided to postpone the traditional Christmas party to avoid having too many people in too small a space - we'll celebrate the mid-point of our season, and award our Jason Leonard Award winners, when we can in the new year.

A few age groups have decided to take a longer Christmas break so are not training on Sunday (this includes the u8 and u9s). We will be fully back on Sunday 9th January 2022 (although some age groups may choose to train on the 2nd of January - keep an eye out for emails from your managers).

We've had a fantastic first half of the season - thank to all the coaches, managers, kids and parents for making it such a successful few months.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Pitch plan Sunday 12th December 2021

A busy Sunday ahead with the U13 Girls, U18 Girls and Colts all playing matches at home and the U15s having their Christmas lunch after training. The Minis have a joint training session with Wimbledon Warriors with the U8/U10 at home and U7/U9/U11 all away. Warriors are just around the corner - 143 Coombe Lane, West Wimbledon, London SW20 0QX.

KIT SALE: Last one of the year, and so the last chance to buy beanies/bobble hats!

PRESIDENT’S LUNCH: Saturday, 8th January. What better way to banish the January blues than a fine lunch and 1st XV game? It would be good if we could encourage some new faces to attend what is always a good laugh and excellent lunch. It’s a great way to get M&Y parents more involved in the club. Please let Paul Ferguson (paul.ferguson@ontier.co.uk) or John Woods (johnwoods.wrfc@gmail.com) know if you can/want to get a table together (doesn’t have to be a whole table).

1st XV: The Men were back to winning ways last weekend with victory over Tunbridge Wells and play league leaders Dorking at home on Saturday (kick off 2pm). U9’s are on ball boy/girl duties but all kids are welcome to get involved – just get them to turn up in their club kit. The Women’s XV are away at local rivals Sutton & Epsom Ladies on Sunday.

PITCH PLAN: Note for the girls on P2 – U13G will be on from 9.30-11ish and the U18G from 11.30 onwards; changing rooms 1 & 2 being shared on the same basis.

Pitch plan 5 December 2021

Many of the minis are away this Sunday: U8s and U9s are at Chobham and U11s are at Cobham.

Also, the U12s and U15s have a Waterfall Cup final against London Irish. There are matches at home for the U13 boys and girls, and the U18 Girls (11.30 ko). U14s have a joint training session with Kings Wimbledon.

KIT SALE: No sale this weekend. The last kit sale will be next weekend (12 December), so that will be the last chance to come along and buy your WRFC bobble hats.

CAR PARK: Last weekend a parent was caught moving the cones in the main car park to use one of the parking spaces that are reserved for kit-carrying coaches and inclusive rugby parents. Parking is difficult to manage at the best of times and has been working really well over the last 2 months – but this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

1st XV: The Men secured a losing bonus point away at North Walsham, going down 22-19, and are on the road again this Saturday at Tunbridge Wells. The Women’s XV bounced back in fine style with a 36-7 win away at Teddington Antlers Ladies. They go again this Sunday away again at Sutton & Epsom Ladies.

Last call for your old coats

Sophie Castle is collecting old coats for the charity Wrap-up London to support the homeless and those in desperate need for the final time this Sunday so please do bring them to the clubhouse where there will be a big box to put them in. We had a monster car-filling load donated last week so let's give this one last push please! Here's Tom from the under 9s to prove it!

As ever, please have a rummage for old kit.

A warm rugby player is a better rugby player!

Please dress your kids with lots of layers - better to take a layer off than be freezing cold. To help with this: Edwear, a charitable initiative from ex-Youth player Ed Dunford, have produced a new Wimbledon RFC beanie, which will be on sale at the club on Sunday (£20). The hats help raise funds for those suffering concussion in sport through the Headway charity. Read more about Headway here.
