England Coach, Ben Ryan at Barham Road

Members of Wimbledon Minis Under-9 age group had a treat on Sunday when they arrived for training to be told that they were going to be coached by Ben Ryan the England 7’s Head Coach. Ryan, a former Wimbledon College pupil and pictured here with the Wimbledon players, represented England at scrum-half at all age groups up to Under-21 level and now combines his role as the national team’s 7’s coach with that of the specialist coach to England’s leading scrum halves such as Harlequins’ Danny Care and Andy Gommarsall. On Monday he flew to Dubai with the 7’s squad.

As well as putting the Minis through their paces Ryan also held a master-class session for the Youth section scrum-halves. “We have a great set of coaches here at Wimbledon,” said Club Chairman John Woods, “but it is something special when you have the chance to learn from someone like Ben. It was a day that our players and coaches will remember for a very long time.”

A big thank you to Ben for giving up his time and we wish him all the best in the World Cup.
