We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Wimbledon RFC 100 Club.
WHY?
Three reasons, we want to:
1. Improve and extend the clubhouse to cater for the growing numbers of the club and to provide a function venue for third party use;
2. Encourage junior members to return to the club as adults and know that they are always welcome; and
3. Offer a genuine value for money membership to committed members.
WHAT IS IT?
A limited club of 100 (limited) life memberships of the Club.
WHAT DO I GET?
If the 100 Club membership is bought for a mini’s or youth player they are entitled to subscription free membership of the Club until the later of the year after they are 25 or 10 seasons from grant date.
If the 100 Club membership is bought by a parent (playing or not) they will benefit from life membership and will not pay any further subscriptions
and...
Each membership will be awarded an exclusive, limited edition commemorative rugby shirt designed especially for the 100 Club members.
WHAT’S THE DONATION BIT ABOUT?
At the recent EGM the club voted in favour of registering for Community Amateur Sports Club status which above all else, if granted by HMRC, allows the club and the donor to benefit from gift aid. This means that for every £100 of donation (only) received by the club, HMRC pays the club £28 on top. In addition, if you are a higher rate tax payer then you can get further tax rebate (more details available on request). The application has been submitted and we are awaiting a response from HMRC.
WHEN DOES IT START?
You can sign up now by registering your interest with Steve Platts using the attached form, there is no limitation of members per family (apart from the fact there are only 100 memberships available!). We will aim to wait until May before taking any cash.
NO, I MEANT THE EXTENSION!
Hopefully the builders will be on site from the beginning of June. The build is scheduled to take 12 to 14 weeks meaning that the work should be complete around the time we reconvene for next season.
HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED?
The works have been costed at £250,000. We have received some very generous commitments from individuals and the club has some money raised from previous seasons which amount to around £200,000. So we are only 50 “100 Club” memberships short of being fully funded.
SO WHY NOT THE 50 Club?
Good point, but it is unlikely that the whole 100 Club will sell out in the summer, and there are other works that we would like to do such as improvements to the changing rooms, toilets and car park, and that’s for starters. The balance of the 100 Club will go towards the fund for these improvements. And of course, 100 is the limit, once they’re gone, they’re gone!
HOW MUCH IS IT?
Each membership is £200 plus a suggested donation of £800, i.e. £1,000. Each additional membership within a family is £150 plus a suggested donation of £600 i.e. £750. So if one parent and one child want to sign up it would be £1,750, two parents and two children would be £3,250.
CAN I GIVE MORE THAN THE SUGGESTED DONATION?
We are committed to remaining a community club but want to be the best we can and offer the best facilities we can, if you share our commitment we'd love you to show this financially, so.... yes, you are welcome to donate more than the suggested amount.
CAN I GIVE LESS THAN THE SUGGESTED DONATION?
In order to qualify for the Club to qualify for the favourable tax treatment, the donation must be voluntary. However this is a fundraising exercise for the benefit of the Club and we would encourage potential members to consider donations at or in excess of the suggested donation. If we don’t raise the funds then we can’t improve your club!
Still want to know more?
YES, TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE EXTENSION
See 3D fly through of the proposed works.
The plans for the extension are now displayed in the club house and can be viewed here.
WILL THERE BE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO DONATE?
Yes. We have to Ball coming up at which you will be able to donate and bid for prizes, there will be the opportunity to buy bricks to be laid on the terrace - walk of legends style, and, of course, you are free to donate any amount you would like to the Club, speak to Steve for details. Other than that, we would prefer to keep the fundraising efforts low key since we want you to continue to enjoy the clubhouse without feeling a pressure to donate every time you go to the Club.
WHAT ABOUT DONATING GOODS OR SERVICES INSTEAD OF CASH?
Yes of course these kinds of donations are very welcome, whether they are items that can be used for the improvements themselves or as prizes for the Ball. If you have any ideas then get in touch with Steve, drop in at the club or speak to the manager of your age group or any member of the committee.
CAN’T YOU GIVE ME SOME IDEAS?
OK, we’re putting in a new kitchen, so how about any high quality kitchen white goods that you no longer need? Or garden furniture for the new terrace? Or perhaps you have some ideas about where to source indoor furniture that might be suitable for the Club? If you are a professional involved in the construction industry I am sure that your services could be useful especially if you are an architect or raw materials supplier. How about donating a prize for the Glitter Ball auction, in previous years donations have included a week in your holiday home, lending out a sports car for the weekend, providing a free haircut/massage/gardening service/dentistry. What how about that old Renoir that has handed down through the family but you don’t really like?
