Wimbledon Rugby Minis & Youth new season arrangements - season starts Sunday 5th September 2021

Back to rugby - back to normal!

After what seems like a very long time we are looking forward to welcoming all players, old and new, back to Wimbledon Rugby Club from Sunday 5th September 2021.

As well as being back to training we are back to training all together as a club with one session for most age groups starting at 9.30am and running for somewhere between 90 minutes and 2 hours (weather and coaching plans depending). The U14s and U15s will train from 10.30am. Three squads - the girls U18s and the boys U16s and Colts (U17-U18) will train from 11.30 onwards.

Parents for those starting after 9.30 are reminded to park away from the club as all parking and public road parking places will be full. Please park off Copse Hill.

We welcome all kids, regardless of experience or ability. Those new-to-rugby are particularly welcome. If you are new to our club we have a long-established minis and youth division with over 100 well-trained coaches. Our aim is to help all our kids enjoy this great sport, and unlike some clubs, we don't run waiting lists nor do we only pick the most-able kids. For more information on what we do read about us here.

We have tag rugby squads at under 6 (reception and school year 1), under 7 and under 8. Then we gradually introduce contact rugby with the under 9s (school year 4) and build up skills through under 10s and under 11s. Then kids leave the 'minis' and become 'youth' players at under 12s and run through to the colts (combined under 17 & 18 squad).

Girls can choose to play in mixed squads up to U11 or select our new all-girls U11 group, which combines years 4 and 5. At secondary school age, all squads are girls-only: U13 (school years 7 and 8), U15 (years 9 and 10) and U18 (years 11 to 13).

We also offer a Tag-only squad to introduce rugby to older new-to-rugby kids and an Inclusive squad for kids with SENs.

After all, rugby's back!

Wimbledon RFC appoint new First XV coach to work with Collin Osborne

Message from Stef D'Anna, our under 11s head coach and first XV director of rugby.

The club is delighted to announce that Will Davis will join the Wimbledon RFC coaching set up next season under Collin Osborne.

Will currently plays at Ealing Trailfinders, where he has over 100 appearances for the club. He has previously played for Northampton Saints, Bristol Bears, Worcester Warriors and Bath, where he also worked along side the community officers to coach in local schools. Most recently Will has been coaching at St John's School, Leatherhead, Old Walcountians and Sutton & Epsom during their time in Nat 2.

Will is committed to making a career of coaching after he finishes playing and is currently focused on completing his Advanced Coaching Award. When he comes to us in time for the start of pre season he will be responsible for our set piece and breakdown.

He is a great fit for Wimbledon given his broader experience with the University of West London Women's Rugby Team, Ealing Trailfinders Academy and Rugby Tots Bristol.

Please make him feel welcome and don't be surprised if you see him at the club on a Sunday to help develop the player pathway for our next generation girls and boys.

Pitch plan for Sunday 18th April 2021

A big welcome to our visitors from Wimbledon Warriors. Below are our pitch plans.

Th clubhouse re-opens from 6pm this Friday 16th April (hurrah!) and service will be outdoors, seated and in groups of no more than six. The bar will be open every evening through the week and from 2pm on Saturday afternoons. Please follow all instructions from the bar staff.

Minis matches start at 9.15 and will be finished by 11.15. Youth training starts a little later this week, at 12 noon.

New one-way traffic pilot to help with traffic flows. The arrangements are...

In order to minimise congestion on Barham Rd we will be introducing a one way system for entry and exit to the club beginning this Sunday 18th April.

Entry to the club will only be possible from Barham Road. No cars will be permitted to access the club via Drax Avenue. Marshalls will be situated at the top of Drax Avenue to prevent access and re direct cars down Copse Hill to Barham Road to enter there.

All cars leaving the club (including those leaving the Preston Road car park) will be directed up Drax Avenue and out onto Copse Hill. Cars will not be permitted to turn right onto Barham Rd after leaving the Preston Rd car park.

We are putting this in place for the safety of all. Please be respectful towards the Marshalls who will be directing you.

Minis – please park in the Preston Road carpark. Once this is full you will be told to park on the PUBLIC roads away from the club.

Youth – please can only coaches head to the main car park, with everyone else dropping off and parking locally on the PUBLIC streets away from the club. Do allow yourself time as it is highly likely you will have to park away from the club and walk.

Be considerate of others and arrive on time so you are not stressed.
