Wimbledon U9s Confront Contact Head On At Kings A Festival . . . . .

Wimbledon U9s Confront Contact Head On At Kings A Festival . . . . . . . . And Walk Away With the CUP TROPHY! ! !
What an outstanding day we had at the Kings A festival on 2nd October. This was our first festival of the season so we were all on a knife-edge knowing that the boys were going to be up against some tough competition.

Our Squad for the day:
Sam Barnett
Edward Blake
Titus Briggs
William Craigie
Charlie Hancock
Dan Hillier
Charlie Howe
Cameron Stevens
William Stothard
Henry Turrell
Sam Vaughan
Edward Volley

We played 5 matches during the day, scored 14 tries and conceded only 3.
Within our group we were drawn against Old Reigatians, Old Ruts and Barnes.

The boys played superbly throughout all matches, their defence never tired and the passion for engaging into contact was fantastic. They focused on teamwork throughout the day which meant that they supported each other when they had possession of the ball and continually gained ground to culminate in the impressive try count during the day. When defending, their tackling was fearless and when the ball wasn’t driven to ground, quite often tacklers were able to power through and get the opposition into touch. Ball handling and accuracy was of equal merit.

The group scores were:

Wimbledon 3 v 0 Old Reigatians
Old Ruts 0 v 3 Wimbledon
Barnes 1 v 3 Wimbledon

This took us through to the Cup semi-final against Kings, a knock out round. . . . . . we beat them; Wimbledon 3 - 1 Kings.

Then we were straight back on the pitch after dispatching Kings to play Brighton. A hard fought match with a nail biting second half saw the Wimbledon team take victory with a 2 – 1 win.

The U9s Winners Cup was ours for the keeping ! ! !

What an absolutely wonderful day!

Well done to each and every one of you, players, coaches and supporting parents. The matchplay was great, the parents both ours and opposition were great and the referees fair.

Trophy on its way to the WMRFC club cabinet!
