COBHAM C FESTIVAL MATCH REPORT by Richard Mardon:
The tempest subsided, out came the sun and a wonderful Festival experience was had by all. The “development” squad of six, which sadly was decimated by illness and other engagements, comprised Milton Dunleavy, Elliott Fair, Billy Mardon, Louis Ribton, Ralph Simmons and James Williamson and bolstered by two very able “ringers” from Cobham produced performances that no-one could imagine at the start of the day.
Tries were scored in abundance, averaging nearly six per match and a narrow defeat in the semi-finals to the eventual winners Reeds, was the shock result of the day. A few vital missed tags and two scores in the final minutes of play put Reeds in the final despite Wimbledon taking an early 3-0 lead, although one has to question the spirit of their victory with the Reeds coach getting a little carried away with it all to say the least!
A good team in the making with great tagging from Ralph and Louis, all round play from Elliott and James and try scoring ability from Milton and Billy (who boasts of bagging 11 tries!)
Thanks to Nick W., David D, Khalid and Jo S. and Fiona F. for pitching in (literally) to help.
Stats: Played 4, Won 3, Lost 1, Tries For: 23 - Tries Agst: 17
Results: Wimbledon 7 Cobham 5 (Pool)
Wimbledon 4 Teddington 1 (Pool)
Wimbledon 5 Chobham 3 (Quarter Final)
Wimbledon 7 Reeds 8 (Semi Final)
