Wimbledon RFC is thrilled to be an official partner of the Wooden Spoon charity. Wooden Spoon is the children’s charity of rugby. Wooden Spoon funds life-changing projects that support children and young people with disabilities or living in disadvantage. Since 1983, they've funded more than 1,000 projects, across the UK and Ireland, totalling over £28 million.
Its focus is to help children and young people through projects such as sensory rooms, playground and outdoor activities, health and wellbeing and specialist equipment. More details are here.
To celebrate our new association with the charity the club is hosting a charity dinner on Friday 28th February 2020. We are selling tables of 9 at £35 per head to include a terrific prawns, fillet steak and toffee pudding dinner.
Plus John Inverdale is our guest (President of Wooden Spoon Surrey, BBC Radio & TV Sports Presenter and Chairman of Rugby at Esher RFC). Table service wine and beer will help prepare us for a charity auction, MC'd by John.
Book your place by emailing John Woods: johnwoods.wrfc@gmail.com.
The weather hasn't been too kind so we have had to rest some pitches and move people around from their usual locations. There's a slim chance there might be a pitch inspection on Saturday night/Sunday morning so please check back here and/or look out for emails from your age group manager in case there's a problem with playing on Sunday.
Under 11s are on parking duty; a reminder to everyone to listen to and respect any instructions the parking marshalls give you. The club has zero tolerance on disrespect and will invoke the club's disciplinary policy if needed.

Final call for any spare clothes, kit and equipment for charity: this weekend and next are our last two collections for the TAG Rugby Trust clothing. The boat with donations leaves mid January and it will be wonderful to see this kit arrive - Paul Goss hopes to share the video for the first set off stuff arriving that has Wimbledon RFC kit in it.

Before we get onto Sunday, a call for touchline support for the first team this Saturday. It's a massive weekend for the club with the 1st XV playing Guernsey on Saturday at 2pm. Wimbledon 1st XV are top of the London & SE Premier league, Guernsey are second. Massive!
Then on Sunday at 2pm our Women's XV take on Old Elthamians, whom they beat early in the season. With a game in hand a good win will help them climb up to 3rd in the table.
Onto Sunday... Welcome to Effingham for training with the 'odds'. The parents of the u6s are marshalling parking this week, please follow all requests from our parent volunteers and consult our parking policy and map below to help you. We take a zero tolerance approach to aggressive behaviour towards our volunteers and those who put the club's good reputation at risk.
Please bring any used second hand Wimbledon kit for the club's second-hand shop and any other random kit and clothes can be donated to the TAG Rugby Trust at the clubhouse - our collection for them is being picked up in early January so please bring your old stuff in over the next three Sundays before the Christmas break.
There are still some fab Wimbledon RFC Christmas cards for sale in packs of 10 if you've run out.
And there's new stock of Edwear - an initiative from ex-Wimbledon youth player and Welsh international Ed Dunford: buy a hat and you'll raise funds for the charity Headway - aiming to help build a better understanding of concussion.
Here's the pitch plan
Here's a short film about the aims behind the Edwear campaign. Edwear is a terrific initiative to help promote awareness of concussion and is led by Welsh international and ex-Wimbledon RFC player, Ed Dunford. Watch his video about the project (below) and read on. Then when you've read all about it come and buy a hat from the club shop on Sunday mornings. Just £20 and you'll be supporting a great initiative.
Edwear hats have been such a success that Ed has already donated more than £1,000 to the Headway Charity.
EDWEAR is a play on my name: Ed Griffin Dunford
MY STORY: As part of my Sixth Form business studies course at Whitgift School I investigated concussion in sport and discovered that only Headway.org.uk supports players with their nationwide CONCUSSION AWARE campaign.
THE OBJECTIVE: Raise money on their behalf, whilst learning more about business.
THE IDEA: Sell club/school branded headwear and share the profits with the charity.

We've got everyone at home and this weekend for a change and U11 on parking; U7 on Cake Sale.
Thank you to everyone who donated old coats. Between the club and Willington School we collected over 100 coats for the charity Wrap-Up London to help the homeless and needy this Christmas.
But there's still the chance to do your bit - three more ways to give back this Christmas
1. We want your second hand clothing for the TAG Rugby Trust. Over time we hope to build links with the charity over the coming years, offering great opportunities for our youth players in terms of tours, coaching, training, leadership experience and developing them as future role models through rugby. At present we are working on building phase 1, donating kit to those in need - and not just rugby kit; any and all clothing is gratefully received. To find out more please check this link - https://tagrugbytrust.co.uk/get-involved/get-involved-as-a-school-or-clu...
So please go through your stuff and bring anything along for the collection at the club shop with the U12s - which will be open each week coming up 24/11, 1/12 & 8/12.
2. The new EdWear hats are in stock too.
It is a great initiative set up by one of our own players and the money raised partly goes back into the club (awesome) and to the Headway.org charity (amazing), plus as winter closes in you will be wrapped up warm. Great value at £20.
3. Wimbledon RFC Christmas Cards for sale at the club shop. Just £4 for 10 cracking cards and the small profit goes back to club coffers. You can also write them in the warmth of the clubhouse while sipping a coffee!
