Message from Stephen Garvey - club physio...

Gentlemen & Gentle-ladies

This Saturday (31 January) between 8-10pm there will be a Motor Neurone Disease Charity Quiz Night at Wimbledon RFC Clubhouse. My girlfriend's uncle suffers from this terrible disease, and she has been working tirelessly for months to organise some greats prizes to be auctioned off on the night.

Auction lots include:
Return Eurostar tickets to Paris, Brussels or Lille for 2 people
Spend day with Battle of Britain flying team for 4 people
1 week stay in holiday cottage in Scottish Highlands for 4 people
Wimbledon Dog racing for 8 people
Round of golf for 4 people at Wimbledon Golf Course
Afternoon tea London bus tour for 2 people
Kew Gardens tickets for 2 people
Tour of Royal Opera House for 2 people
Headmasters hair cut and blow dry
To name but a few

See flyer attached to this message

We are expecting close to a 100 people and it would be great to get a team(s) from Wimbledon to support such a great cause but also to come support our quizmaster on the night James Oglive-Bull which will be accompanied by some of the finest cuisine that Wimbledon has to offer by our resident chef Mick. He also promises a bar open to the early hours of the morning.

Doors open at 7pm, quiz kicking off at 8pm, quiz teams 6-8 peoples and tickets are £15pp which includes hot buffet meal. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to attend. It would be great to see as many faces from Wimbledon to support a cause that is very close to our hearts.

Thanks

Rugby and netball plans for Sunday 18th January 2015

Minis are split between being at home and away at Old Ruts. Evens (eg U8s) at home, odds (eg U9s) at Old Ruts. If away here's where Old Ruts are:
Old Rutlishians
Poplar Road
Merton Park
London
SW19 3JS

website : http://www.oldrutsrugby.com/contact-us.aspx

They have some limited parking on-site (first come first served), but there is plenty of parking available on the roads surrounding the club which are not controlled on Sunday morning.

If at home please be careful where you park - if you see a cone please don't park next to it, it is there for a reason!

Netball: 7/8/9 year olds from 9.30am to 10.45am; 10/11 year olds from 10.45am to 12.00pm. See post below for more details.

Finally, next Saturday (24th) is our Burns Night - see this post. It's a cracking night of haggis, dancing, revelry, addressing, whisky. A great night for couples. Tickets from Una: social@wmrfc.co.uk

Netball continues this and each Sunday (18 Jan 15 and onwards)

Following a great first session where 30+ girls came to the club and had a cracking session we're thrilled to say that training will clearly be on each Sunday. 7/8/9 year olds from 9.30am to 10.45am; 10/11 year olds from 10.45am to 12.00pm. 12 to 15 year olds sessions will run from 12.00 to 1.15pm as and when we have ten people signed up.

More details here: http://www.wimbledonrfc.co.uk/j/team-latest-136436.html.

Wimbledon RFC U18s Dylan Morris secures final trial for England U18s

Wimbledon & Surrey U18 back row forward Dylan Morris has been successful in the London & South East Counties trials and has been put forward for the final trial for the England U18 Clubs & Schools Side to be held at Loughborough University at the end of February 2015. The pic below is Dylan in front of his dad's (John) Wales Universities shirt the year they beat England Universities. John is keen to share the secret to Dylan's success on the pitch: he always plays wearing his lucky Welsh pants! Thank goodness Dylan's seen sense and has an England trial...

This is a huge achievement for the Wimbledon RFC Youth system and hopefully there will be many more to follow in his footsteps.

Dylan has worked tirelessly on his fitness and commitment to rugby at both club and county level to achieve this accolade. It's well deserved.

None of this would have been possible without Charlie O’Rourke who has coached Dylan and the team over the past 12 years, from U6. His dedication and expertise has not only driven the squad to be the current Surrey U17 Champions he has also nurtured the talents of Josh O’Rourke and Alex Kane who also play for Surrey.

A truly great achievement for the coaching and youth system in our 150th celebration year - good luck to Dylan at the trial.

Dick Dunford, Youth Chair.
