After much conferring, texts, emails and phone calls the match was finally played!
It was a much tougher game than the result suggests with some new recruits into the OA's (especially their No8) making some searing breaks. We tackled valiently and dominated the close forward work winning most scrums, rucks and mauls and went in deservedly at half-time with a 12:0 lead from tries by Luke Harvey-Smith and Cieran Hoban and a conversion by Seb Elledge.
The second half was more one-sided and Thomas Bracegirdle scored a hatrick, while James Wakefiled made a phenominal try saving tackle and scored a try ("Back of the Match"). Jack Kremer converted two tries and Seb Elledge finished off with a try at the end to secure the 40 points maximum differential.
It was a great team effort and particularly pleasing to not let OA's score. The forwards in particular supported each other with some great off-loads and linking multi-phases of play with James Anderson, Marko Ravic, Thomas Waters and Luke Harvey-Smith all making powerful runs. The front row of Jacob Childs, Thomas King (last minute replacement) and Ben Casling that got my attention through a huge amount of unselfish work to set up great positions for others to use the quality ball they had won hence the front row were all awarded "Forward of the Match" trophies.
Tougher matches to come against Rosslyn Park and Kingston - Bring them on!
