What a fantastic score line and a convincing win to start our first league match of the season!
Everyone played their part, it was truly a great team effort and it was superb to see how many lessons have been learned from all the training and matches we have played so far. We passed out of the tackle or went to ground and unselfishly rucked to give good quality possession to the backs. The backs made good decisions almost all the time and the ball was passed regularly to the outside centre, wings and to the full back.
We won phase after phase due to the first class work rate an commitment of the forwards and because our back line got into position early we were able to keep it simple and gain ground in most plays. The tries were equally shared between forwards and backs and no player scored more than 2 tries!
Forward of the match was Harrison White who was clearly working hard at every ruck and maul and scrummaged really well all match. I must also mention James Anderson as being a tower (literally) of strength and a great pack leader – really commanding and getting the forwards thinking as well as fired up. Backs Man of the Match was the team captain, Jack who scored 22 points and led the line in defensive and attack very well. The timing of passing was particularly excellent from Jack and Thomas Cooper at outside centre. Jack kicked 6 conversions 4 of which were wide out on the wings.
The substitutes performed really well showing that we have strength in depth. Rob (starting flanker in for Xander) was mainly responsible for the first try. Kingey played really well as second row and as prop for Adi. Sam had his best match so far at flanker. Jonathan was also very effective in rucks and mauls. Our back subs played their part too with Noah scoring two tries and Luke Young caught a couple of top rate catches at full back in really poor conditions.
Tries:
Jack Kremer 2
James Wakefield 2
Thomas Waters 2
Luke Harvey Smith 2
Noah Jervis 2
Cieran Hoban 1
Thomas Cooper 1
